Rakesh, a successful lawyer and husband, travels to London to pursue higher education. During this period he settles into his career abroad and envisions a bright future. He spends a year there before any major events pull him back to India.

After a year in London, Rakesh learns that Geeta has fallen seriously ill and he rushes back to her side. He arrives just as her condition worsens and witnesses the gravity of her illness. The emotional shock sets the stage for the events that follow.

Geeta dies in Rakesh's arms, and his grief drives him to erect a small memorial in his mansion to honor her memory. He spends long hours there, listening to Geeta's recorded songs that he keeps near the memorial. The tribute becomes a central symbol of his mourning.

A police inspector visits and explains that a captured bandit named Raina claims to be Rakesh's wife. Raina looks exactly like Geeta, shocking Rakesh since he cremated Geeta after her death. The encounter sets up a haunting mystery about identity and memory.

Raina repeats her claim of being Geeta and recounts intimate moments they shared, forcing Rakesh to confront the possibility of a complex impersonation. He remains skeptical but unsettled as she describes details that only Geeta would know. The resemblance triggers a chain of doubt and controversy.

During cross-examination, Rakesh presses Raina about the mangala sutra and Geeta's diary, two things he knows intimately. Raina answers some questions correctly but fails to explain why the mangala sutra was missing and cannot account for Geeta's diary. The gaps intensify his suspicion that she is an impostor.

Convinced that Raina is an impostor, Rakesh urges the court to convict her. The emotional strain proves too much for Raina, and she is committed to a mental institution after the proceedings. The case leaves him unsettled and curious about the truth.

One night, Raina escapes from the mental institution and goes straight to Rakesh's house, seeking explanations. She narrates her side of the story and the truth begins to unfold in his presence. The moment marks a turning point in the mystery.

Geeta explains that she has a twin sister, Nisha, who was raised as a bandit in the same family. She had hidden this criminal past and married Rakesh under a new life. The revelation reframes the entire case and explains familiar-looking faces.

To shield Nisha from danger, Geeta makes Nisha dress like her and even lends her her mangalsutra. The deception is meant to shield the twin and the family from exposure. This disguise leads to further confusion about who is who.

Ranjit Singh, Nisha's husband, mistakes Geeta (in disguise) for Nisha and forcibly takes her away. He believes he is returning his wife, unaware of the deception. The incident escalates tensions and leads to police action.

Police intercept the pair on their way back, leading to arrests. During the confrontation, Ranjit Singh arrives to confirm Geeta's story to Rakesh, but he is shot by the police and dies at Nisha's memorial. The tragedy cements the truth of Geeta's family history.

After the chaotic sequence of revelations and tragedy, Rakesh and Geeta reconcile and resume their ordinary life together. The future becomes quiet and normal as the truth about Geeta's family is accepted.
