A Labrador puppy escapes from a breeder's house where many dogs are caged and tortured. She begins a perilous journey in search of safety and kindness. This escape sets the story in motion by introducing a bond that will reshape both their lives.

The puppy reaches the Chinmaya colony in Mysore, where Dharma lives as a loner. He is feared and avoids social contact, spending his time at work, fights, booze, and watching Charlie Chaplin on TV. The stray dog views him as a potential savior and secretly follows him.

A musical festival in the colony disturbs Dharma's sleep and fuels his anger. He tears down the band instruments in a burst of rage. The puppy witnesses his outburst and starts following him, sensing his latent kindness.

The puppy hides in a dustbin outside Dharma's house and eats leftovers Dharma tosses away, unaware of him. She tries to get his attention but he remains distant. Over time she becomes his shadow, following his every move.

One day the dog follows Dharma and is involved in a road accident. Moved by pity, Dharma takes her to a hospital where Dr. Ashwin Kumar advises keeping the dog with him until an adopter appears and to obtain a dog license. This crash becomes the moment that binds them.

Dharma reluctantly cares for the dog as a bond forms between them. He names her Charlie after Charlie Chaplin and starts caring for her alongside a child in the colony named Adrika (Adi). The companionship begins to shift Dharma's solitary life.

Charlie is diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma of the spleen, a genetic defect caused by cruel breeding and torture. Distraught, Dharma resolves to fulfill Charlie's wishes, especially her love of snow, which prompts a trek toward Himachal Pradesh. The disease catalyzes Dharma's transformation and deeper commitment to the dog.

Devika, an animal welfare activist, suspects Dharma of mistreating Charlie and decides to follow him to gather proof. She trails their journey, hoping to confront him if needed but gradually sees the genuine care in his actions. Her perspective shifts from accusation to reluctant ally.

Dharma learns from the vet about Charlie's breeder and discovers a video showing the dog being tortured; he realizes Charlie's real name is Keaton. He confronts the breeder, who is later arrested by the police, and the remaining dogs are rescued by animal welfare teams. This revelation clears Charlie's past and galvanizes public support.

Devika, now more sympathetic, introduces Dharma to Karshan Roy, who promises to publish his story in a magazine. The exposure helps tell Charlie and Dharma's journey to a wider audience. This marks a shift from personal healing to public advocacy for animal welfare.

In Punjab, Dharma and Charlie meet dog lover Vamshinathan and his dog Blacky, spending a few days with them and entering a dog competition. Charlie's fearless long jump wins the crowd and earns support for their journey. The experience strengthens their bond and widens their circle of supporters.

Charlie is revealed to be pregnant with Blacky's child, though the puppies do not survive. They continue by bus, but a landslide halts the journey and the army intervenes to arrange safe passage to Kashmir. The sequence emphasizes Charlie's love of snow and the perilous path they travel.

Charlie dies in Dharma's arms after a final moment at a temple. He discovers a surviving daughter of Charlie and Blacky hidden in the temple, a sign that Charlie left him a reason to carry on. Dharma is left with a bittersweet legacy and a renewed sense of purpose.

A few months later, Dharma, Devika, Adrika, and the colony inaugurate an animal rescue and shelter in Charlie's memory. He sits beside Charlie's memorial and reads an article about their journey. Charlie's puppy, also named Charlie, is shown to be mischievous, continuing the family story.
