Dr. Akash “Akki” Bhatnagar and his wife Maya are doctors who devote themselves to healing others. When malaria strikes India along the Burmese border, Maya rushes to help, despite Akash’s disapproval. Soon after, he receives word that Maya has died in a bus crash that plunged into water during heavy rains. The event unsettles him deeply, and the film’s mood lingers in the wake of that loss. The soundtrack even features a haunting moment with Shreya Ghoshal in the song “Har Taraf,” hinting at the emotional reach of Maya’s absence.
Bereaved and unable to accept the loss, Akash clings to a belief that Maya did not truly die. He holds that by examining a corpse one could glean the mind that lived in it at the moment of death, and he desperately searches for Maya’s body, hoping to prove his theory. When the search fails, Akash begins to experience uncanny phenomena: he feels Maya’s presence and senses that her soul is trying to reach him. He starts attempting communication through hospital patients who have faced near-death experiences; each patient draws a strange symbol, and one corpse even speaks to him when he is alone. Tanya, a close friend of Maya who once found solace with Akash when her lover died in an accident, comes to comfort him but also doubts his reality, wondering if his mind is playing tricks on him.
With the help of a nun named Sister Martha Sister Martha and a steady guide, Akash returns to the border to search for clues about Maya. He revisits the scene of the tragedy and follows a trail that remains stubbornly elusive, until a leap of faith leads him to a waterfall near the crash site. There, he discovers the sunken bus and Maya’s spirit appears, beckoning him to witness the events that followed. He learns from the nearby village tribe that Maya’s death did not erase her impact; they reveal a surprising truth: though Maya died, she had given birth to their daughter, and the baby survived under the tribe’s care despite being premature and without medical attention. The revelation unfolds as Maya’s spirit seems to guide him toward a future built on trust and new family bonds.
The tribe’s tale and Maya’s unseen influence teach Akash a profound lesson: Maya’s love was a force that encouraged him to trust again in the face of sorrow. He brings the child home, embracing the chance to live anew as a father, and eventually finds a quiet happiness in the presence of their daughter. In a final, touching moment, Akshita Mutreja appears as Akash and Maya’s daughter, signaling a hopeful continuation of their story and an enduring connection that transcends loss.
