In Copenhagen, four teachers—Martin, Tommy, Peter, and Nikolaj—find themselves struggling with a lack of interest from their students. These challenges lead to feelings of monotony and unfulfillment in both their personal and professional lives.

During a dinner celebrating Nikolaj's 40th birthday, a provocative discussion arises about a theory by psychiatrist Finn Skårderud. He proposes that humans have a BAC deficiency and suggests that maintaining a slight intoxication could enhance creativity and relaxation.

Inspired by Skårderud's theory, the friends decide to put it to the test through an experiment. They set rules to maintain a BAC of 0.05 during workdays, excited about the potential benefits for their teaching and personal lives.

As the experiment unfolds, the teachers begin experiencing improvements both professionally and personally. Martin reconciles with his family, and his revamped history lessons draw his students' interest, transforming the classroom experience.

Encouraged by their initial results, the group decides to increase their BAC limit to 0.10. This decision, however, leads to reckless behavior, as they indulge more heavily in alcohol, blurring the lines of their original intentions.

After a night of excess, the friends face a harsh reality when their families confront them about their drinking. Martin discovers his wife's infidelity, leading the group to reevaluate their choices and abandon the experiment.

Some time passes, and the friends agree to cease drinking during work hours, except for Tommy, who struggles to give up the habit. This decision reflects their desire to regain control over their lives despite the turbulent aftermath of their experiment.

In a faculty meeting, Tommy appears drunk, raising concern among his colleagues about the repercussions of their drinking. Tragically, after a fateful decision to take his dog out to sea, Tommy drowns, marking a devastating turn for the group.

Following Tommy's funeral, Martin, Nikolaj, and Peter gather for a dinner to commemorate their friend. As they reminisce over sparkling wine, Martin starts texting his wife, initiating a heartfelt connection.

The trio's dinner is interrupted by a group of recently graduated students celebrating nearby. Reminiscing about their youth inspires them to join in the festivities, rekindling the spirits of joy they had lost.

In a moment of spontaneous joy, Martin begins to dance with the graduates, showcasing a side of himself that had been hidden. This culminates in a leap off the harbor wall into the bay, symbolizing a newfound sense of freedom.
