Ant-Man and the Wasp

The ending of “Ant-Man and the Wasp” ties deeply into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and its major crossover event, “Infinity War.” Throughout the film, Scott and his team work to locate and rescue Janet Van Dyne from the quantum realm, which is intricately connected to Hank Pym’s past and the quantum energy Janet might still hold. As they venture into the quantum realm to save her, they manage to communicate with Janet through quantum entanglement, revealing her consciousness inside the realm and providing the coordinates for her rescue. This lose-lose situation is a direct tie-in to the events of “Infinity War,” emphasizing that Scott’s survival might have been a matter of luck, or perhaps because the quantum realm isn’t affected by the same loss of life outside.

Scott’s entrapment inside the quantum realm becomes a major plot point for future films. His absence during the five years following “Infinity War” is what helped produce the desperate time-travel plan in “Endgame,” as he, along with others, helped the Avengers to retrieve the Infinity Stones and undo Thanos’ snap. The final post-credit scene leaves viewers with a humorous yet ominous image: a giant ant practicing drums in Scott’s empty house. But the scene also hints at the grim reality—Scott’s wife, Hope’s father, and others have vanished into dust, with the question mark hinting at ongoing uncertainty about what’s happening to him and the universe. This ambiguity sets the stage for future adventures and the continuation of the Marvel story.
