What Happens in Beware Boiúna: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Beware Boiúna (2026) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

The film opens in Colombia, along the Amazon River. A tribe called the Yaguari are closing in on an illegal mining camp. As the villagers force the miners out, a gigantic snake known as Boiúna emerges and attacks the miners.

Somewhere else along the river, a medical boat, R.R. Hermes, is making its way to a nearby village. They include Allison (Jessica Rothe), Callum (Will Close), Miguel (Juan Pablo Shuk), Raul (Jaime Newball), and Lena (Kiana Madeira). Lena has been searching for her brother Jorge (Sergio Herrera), who was lost somewhere in the Amazon, but she believes he is still alive. She also considers Raul to be like a father figure, and he views her as a surrogate daughter.

The crew arrives at the village and brings medical attention to the locals after earning their trust. Alli is playing with some kids, when one of the boys loses his ball in the river. Alli tries to stop him from going further, and a local male adult tries to get the kid out. Boiúna emerges and snatches the man, even as Alli tries to save him, but she can only watch him get taken away.

Later, the crew stops at a bar, where Alli sees a large drawing of Boiúna on the wall. Lena explains that the snake is a guardian of the rainforest that decides who lives and dies. They meet a group of profiteers, led by Brennan Malloy (Logan Marshall-Green). The crew are not pleased with their business but decide to leave them alone. Brennan’s brother Shawn (Jackson Bews) appears to take an interest in Alli but is seemingly too shy to talk to her.

Alli goes to untie the profiteers’ boat so it can drift away. Shawn catches her while totally drunk. He tries to initiate a sexual encounter, but Alli sees he’s drunk and refuses. When Shawn tries to take it further, Lena shows up and tries to intervene, but Shawn punches her. Lena pushes him and causes Shawn to fall and hit his face on the dock, killing him. Alli panics and thinks they need to come clean, but Lena warns her that those men would kill them for this. They dump Shawn’s body in the water, unaware that they have been spotted by one of the local boys.

The Hermes crew departs to go to another village. Brennan and his men discover Shawn’s corpse in the water, and Brennan finds the boy who saw everything to spill the beans. Brennan contacts the Hermes crew and demands that Lena and Alli be brought back, but the crew refuses since they know it was in self-defense (though Alli admits that Shawn saw her untying their boat). Against his men’s desires, Brennan decides to pursue the crew on his own boat.

As they move further, the ladies nearly dive into the water until a crocodile’s corpse pops up. Lena is startled and cuts her leg against part of the boat. Miguel and Raul inspect the crocodile corpse, as it has apparently been regurgitated. Meanwhile, Lena tells Alli about how her and Jorge’s parents were brutally murdered when they were children after refusing to give up their land. They were found and protected by the Yaguari, but Lena got separated from Jorge and has been searching for him ever since.

At night, the crew end up stopping their boat somewhere dark. Brennan and his men eventually catch up to the crew and hold the men hostage. Boiúna emerges and snatches one of Brennan’s men, while Callum accidentally gets shot in the ensuing chaos. Miguel also gets snatched and killed by Boiúna. Alli, Lena, and Raul run back to the boat, but Raul ends up taken by the snake as well. Boiúna then uses her strength to capsize the boat, sending Alli and Lena into the water. They both make it to shore, but Alli calling out for Lena alerts Boiúna, leading to her getting eaten as well and leaving Lena alone.

Lena finds Brennan, whose men have all been killed and eaten as well. She considers killing him but instead forms a truce with him so that they can survive. They are eventually found by Jorge and his companion, who are part of the Yaguari. When Brennan suggests that they kill the snake, Jorge refuses since Boiúna is regarded as being necessary to the land. His friends gets chomped by Boiúna, forcing them to run.

Lena gets separated from Jorge again and ends up falling into a large mud pit. Brennan tries to help pull her out but ends up running away after he cannot reach her. After Boiúna slithers past her and doesn’t notice her, Lena is able to pull herself out. Meanwhile, Brennan runs until the guilt from abandoning Lena, plus the deaths of Shawn and their men, starts to hit him hard.

Lena ends up at a construction site where Boiúna attempts to attack her. She hides inside a crane machine and uses the crane to try and pick the snake up and stop her from attacking. Lena ends up getting a piece of equipment impaled into her leg, trapping her from escaping. Brennan returns with a chainsaw and partially slices into Boiúna, giving Lena a chance to fight back. Boiúna devours Brennan but Lena manages to stab the snake in the side. Jorge and the other Yaguari arrive to watch as Lena defiantly stares down the massive serpent. Boiúna ultimately decides to spare Lena and she retreats. Lena and Jorge embrace, and she decides to stay with the Yaguari.

The film ends as Lena joins the Yaguari in infiltrating the mining camp from the start of the film.

Beware Boiúna Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Beware Boiúna (2026): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

What is Boiúna in Beware Boiúna and why does it attack people?

Boiúna is a gigantic, legendary water snake that lives in the Amazon River. In the film, Lena explains that the Yaguari people regard it as a guardian of the rainforest that decides who lives and dies. It emerges whenever the jungle feels threatened, attacking the illegal miners at the opening and later striking anyone who disturbs the river, including the villagers, the medical crew, and Brennan's profiteers. Boiúna is not a mindless animal but a force that protects the land from exploitation and intrusion.

Foreshadowing: The bar scene where Lena describes Boiúna as the rainforest's guardian foreshadows why the snake later targets both the miners and the crew as outsiders.

  • boiúna
  • legendary snake
  • amazon guardian
  • rainforest protector
Q2

Why does Allison die and how does Boiúna find her?

Allison is killed shortly after the R.R. Hermes is capsized by Boiúna. She and Lena both make it to shore, but Allison calls out for Lena, and her voice alerts Boiúna to their exact location. The snake immediately devours her, leaving Lena alone. Her death is a direct consequence of staying quiet in a hostile environment, as Boiúna hunts by sound as much as by movement.

  • allison death
  • alli eaten
  • boat capsized
  • callum shot
Q3

Why do Alli and Lena hide Shawn's death instead of reporting it?

After Shawn drunkenly attempts to assault Alli and then punches Lena, Lena pushes him and he fatally hits his face on the dock. The two women panic because Brennan's group of armed profiteers is nearby, and Lena warns Alli that those men would kill them if they found out. They dump the body in the water and keep quiet, unaware that a local boy witnessed the whole incident. Their decision sets off the chain of events that leads to Brennan pursuing the crew.

  • shawn death cover-up
  • dock accident
  • self defense
  • local boy witness
Q4

Why does Brennan chase the Hermes crew on his own?

After learning from the local boy that Lena and Alli killed his brother Shawn, Brennan demands they be handed over. When the medical crew refuses, knowing it was self-defense, Brennan defies his own men's wishes and sets off alone on a separate boat. He is driven by personal grief and the need to confront the women responsible for Shawn's death, even at the cost of splitting from his group.

  • brennan motivation
  • shawn revenge
  • solo pursuit
  • malloy brother
Q5

Who is Jorge and why has Lena been searching for him?

Jorge is Lena's younger brother, who was separated from her during a traumatic childhood. After their parents were brutally murdered for refusing to give up their land, Lena and Jorge were taken in and protected by the Yaguari tribe. The two got separated at some point, and Jorge vanished into the Amazon. Lena has spent years traveling with the medical crew hoping to find him, and she eventually discovers he has been living with the Yaguari all along.

Foreshadowing: Lena's emotional attachment to Raul as a father figure and her insistence on staying in the Amazon foreshadow her real connection to the Yaguari through Jorge.

  • jorge
  • lena brother
  • yaguari tribe
  • parents murdered
  • childhood trauma
Q6

Why does Boiúna spare Lena at the end?

After Brennan is devoured, Lena manages to stab Boiúna in the side and stands her ground, staring the massive serpent down as the Yaguari arrive to watch. Boiúna ultimately retreats without killing her. Because Lena is part of the Yaguari by blood, and the snake is regarded as a guardian of the land and its people, her defiance combined with her belonging to the tribe earns the creature's respect, sparing her where outsiders were destroyed.

Foreshadowing: Boiúna passing by Lena in the mud pit without noticing her hints that the snake recognizes her as part of the jungle's protected people.

  • boiúna spares lena
  • final battle
  • crane
  • chainsaw
  • yaguari witness
Q7

What does the regurgitated crocodile mean in the story?

When a dead crocodile pops up near the Hermes, Miguel and Raul inspect it and realize it appears to have been regurgitated. The scene signals that Boiúna is active in that stretch of the river and large enough to swallow and expel apex predators. It also startles Lena, causing her to cut her leg, an injury that becomes a recurring vulnerability throughout her escape.

  • regurgitated crocodile
  • lena leg cut
  • boiúna evidence
  • size of snake
Q8

Why does Lena spare Brennan and form a truce with him?

When Lena finds Brennan, his entire crew has already been killed and eaten by Boiúna, and he is now alone and vulnerable. Although she briefly considers killing him for everything he put the crew through, she ultimately decides that cooperation is the only way to survive the Amazon. The truce is purely practical, but it slowly shifts as Brennan returns to help her during the final fight at the construction site.

  • brennan truce
  • lena decision
  • survival pact
  • uneasy alliance
Q9

Why does Brennan abandon Lena in the mud pit?

When Lena falls into a large mud pit, Brennan tries to pull her out but cannot reach her. As Boiúna approaches, his survival instinct takes over and he flees, leaving her behind. The act devastates him psychologically, and his guilt over abandoning Lena, combined with the deaths of Shawn and his men, drives him to return later with a chainsaw to help her fight Boiúna at the construction site.

  • brennan abandons lena
  • mud pit
  • guilt
  • chainsaw return
Q10

How does Lena try to fight Boiúna with the crane at the construction site?

After Boiúna attacks her at the construction site, Lena climbs inside a crane machine and uses the crane's lifting arm to try to hoist the massive snake up and stop it from striking. The plan backfires when a piece of equipment gets impaled into her leg, pinning her in place. She is left trapped until Brennan arrives with a chainsaw to partially slice Boiúna, giving her the opening she needs to stab the snake in the side.

  • construction site fight
  • crane attack
  • impaled leg
  • chainsaw rescue
Q11

What happens to the medical crew when Boiúna attacks the boat at night?

After the Hermes stops in a dark stretch of the river, Brennan and his men catch up and hold the male crew members hostage. Boiúna suddenly emerges, snatching one of Brennan's men, then killing Miguel and dragging Raul into the water. Callum is accidentally shot during the chaos, and Boiúna uses her strength to capsize the entire boat, throwing Alli and Lena into the river. The ambush effectively wipes out the entire crew.

  • callum shot
Q12

Why do the Yaguari raid the illegal mining camp at the beginning?

The tribe closes in on the camp to force the miners out and reclaim the territory. Q13

Why does Lena decide to stay with the Yaguari at the end?

After finally being reunited with Jorge, who has been living with the Yaguari since they were separated as children, Lena chooses to remain with the tribe. Having lost nearly the entire medical crew, her surrogate father figure Raul, and her close friend Allison, she has no reason to return to her old life. She joins the Yaguari in infiltrating the mining camp in the final scene, fully embracing her identity as one of the tribe's protectors.

Q14

What causes the jungle to turn against the medical crew?

Although the Hermes crew came on a humanitarian mission, their intrusion into Yaguari territory still disturbs the natural balance Boiúna is sworn to protect. The snake's attacks on the villagers, the crew, and the profiteers are not aimed at one group specifically but at anyone who disturbs the river and the land. Combined with the profiteers' arrival and the violence that follows Shawn's death, the entire stretch of the river becomes hostile, sealing the crew's fate.
