Vijay Vijay is the only son of Vishwanathan S. P. Balasubramaniam, a wealthy industrialist, and after finishing his studies in the United States he embraces a very Westernized lifestyle. He spends his days partying and hanging out with his friends Chandru Vivek and Sowmya Radhika Chaudhari, showing little interest in his father’s business or in the institution of marriage. This carefree attitude catches the attention of Vishwanathan, who decides that Vijay should be married to grow into responsibility. To keep the arrangement workable, he proposes a bold condition: the marriage would be valid for only one year, after which Vijay could decide whether to continue as husband and wife. The elder man believes a practical reform might finally nudge his son toward a more disciplined life, but he fears no girl will accept such terms. He confides in his trusted assistant Priya Simran, asking her to marry Vijay with the hope that she will help transform him.

Priya is not just a caring individual; she is the sole breadwinner for a family in need. Her elder sister requires heart surgery, her younger sister must be married off, and her brother Shankar Ramji is unemployed. Faced with these pressures, Priya makes a painful yet noble choice: she agrees to marry Vijay under his strict conditions to secure her family’s future. When Vijay starts working in his father’s office, he discovers a troubling truth: two longtime lieutenants—Manohar Thalaivasal Vijay and 7 Times Kazan Khan—have been embezzling funds, and their misdeeds are linked to the very people Vijay trusted. He confronts them, dismisses them, and files a police report, aiming to safeguard the family business and Priya’s future.

The clash between Vijay’s newfound sense of duty and the scheming duo’s retaliation escalates quickly. Manohar and 7 Times orchestrate a car accident that leaves Vijay gravely injured, a tactic meant to frighten Priya and destabilize their fragile union. Priya stays by his side, nursing him back to health, and the couple’s bond grows during the long recovery. The crisis also tests their relationship, as public rumors and private resentments threaten to sever the fragile trust that has formed between them. Yet Priya remains a steadfast presence, and Vijay begins to see the depth of her sacrifice.

On their first wedding anniversary, a turning point arrives. In a moment of candor that shocks everyone, Vijay announces that he intends to end the marriage as per their agreement, insisting he never treated Priya as a wife but only as a friend who helped reform him. He leaves Priya at her doorstep, and she endures not only his rejection but the social humiliation of being part of an “agreement” marriage. Seeking to repair the rift, Vijay attempts to reconnect. Priya, now pregnant, secures a new job and, around their upcoming Seemantham celebration, he tries to win her back by taking over the failing company she joined, hoping to keep her close as his personal assistant. Yet Priya’s return is marred by revelations: at her baby shower, she publicly reminds the guests that she did marry Vijay and that the marriage was not merely a money-driven arrangement but a union with real consequences. Vijay responds with raw honesty, declaring that she chose to marry him for money rather than love, and he departs with Vishwanathan and his friends, leaving Priya to navigate a painful chasm of trust and betrayal.

In a last-ditch effort to salvage what remains, Vijay, Chandru, Shankar, and Stepnee—Vijay’s driver—concoct a ruse to convince Priya that her husband is in grave danger. They tell her that an imminent threat looms, hoping she will rush to his side and reconsider. When Priya discovers the ruse, she hurries to Vijay’s home to admonish him for his morally questionable tactics, only to learn that the danger is real: Manohar and 7 Times have indeed escaped from prison and attacked Vijay. In the ensuing chaos, Priya tries to help, but she slips and goes into labor. Vijay, severely injured, must be operated on again, and the two of them persevere through the crisis. They manage to reach the hospital in time, and their baby boy is born just as Vijay’s life hangs in the balance. After a tense recovery, Vijay and Priya reunite, more united by the trials they have endured and the child they share. Their story closes on a note of renewed commitment, with love, forgiveness, and a strong sense of family bridging the gaps that once seemed insurmountable.
