Wesley Deeds, the diligent head of the family-run Deeds Corporation, begins his day as he dresses for work. His fiancée, Natalie, prepares breakfast, commenting on his predictable morning routine. Before heading to the office, Wesley picks up his younger brother, Walter, who is irritable and frustrated due to losing his driver’s license after multiple DUIs. They enjoy lunch together with their mother, the esteemed Wilimena Deeds. Later on, Wilimena meets Natalie, her mother, and Natalie’s closest friend at a bridal shop, where they encourage Natalie to contemplate her future with Wesley.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Lindsey Wakefield, a single mother and cleaner for the Deeds Corporation, is facing an eviction. In a hurry to collect her paycheck, Lindsey inadvertently parks in Wesley’s reserved spot while leaving her six-year-old daughter, Ariel, inside the vehicle. Wesley and Walter quickly find Ariel alone in the car after it is towed, leading to a confrontation between Lindsey and the men. After taking Ariel to school, Wesley heads to a meeting with his coworker and best friend, John, discussing a potentially lucrative acquisition of a rival company.

After work, Lindsey faces eviction and, gathering her belongings, picks up Ariel from school to work another shift, with Ariel waiting in a broom closet. Forced to live in their van, Wesley decides to look after them until Lindsey’s “boyfriend” can collect them. He takes Lindsey and Ariel out for pizza, creating a heartwarming bond among the trio.

When Ariel’s teacher discovers their homeless situation, she threatens to notify child services. Meanwhile, Wesley grapples with expanding the family business while juggling his complicated relationship with Natalie. One night, after returning home drunk from a fashion show, Natalie tries to get intimate with Wesley; however, he turns her down. After child services intervene and take Ariel away, Wesley secures a rent-free corporate apartment for Lindsey, allowing her to regain custody of her daughter. When Wesley shares his long-held desire to ride a motorcycle, Lindsey rents one, and they take an adventurous ride through the countryside, culminating in a kiss by a serene pond. Despite the chemistry, Wesley confesses his engagement, prompting Lindsey to leave.

As the Deeds Corporation successfully overtakes the rival business, Walter ruins their victory celebration with an eruption. Lindsey comes to the party hoping to speak with Wesley, but Walter insists she stays, insinuating to Wilimena that Wesley and Lindsey are having an affair. Wilimena, in turn, suggests to Lindsey that a relationship with someone like Wesley might not last.

In a twist of events, the group gets trapped in an elevator following a brawl between Wesley and Walter. During the commotion, both Natalie and Wilimena notice Lindsey reaching out for Wesley’s injured hand. That night, Wesley seeks out Lindsey but finds her steadfast in her refusal. Wesley and Natalie come to the painful realization that although they love one another, their marriage would likely be doomed due to their families’ expectations. They decide to announce their breakup at their engagement party. Wesley further reveals his intention to quit his job and travel to reconnect with old friends, appointing John as the new CEO. Though Walter is initially upset, he eventually accepts Wesley’s decision.

Wesley confronts Walter, expressing that he’s tired of always fixing his brother’s messes. He tells Walter that he can no longer allow Walter’s destructive choices to affect his life. Wesley invites Lindsey and Ariel to accompany him on his trip to Nigeria, but she once again declines. As Wesley’s plane takes off, he notices an unexpected sight across the aisle: Lindsey and Ariel. This moment leads to a heartfelt kiss between Wesley and Lindsey, leaving Ariel glowing with joy, marking a new chapter in their entwined lives.
