Shanthi Devi is introduced as the dazzling head of Devi Industries in Madras, celebrated as the number one young industrialist in India. Wealthy and unyielding, she rules her company with an iron fist, living with her father, Viswanathan, whom she replaced as CEO five years earlier, and with her loyal maid Kannamma, a family dynamic shaped by the loss of her mother two decades ago. Into this sharp, protected world returns Krishnan, a kind-hearted mechanic from Bombay, who travels home to Madras to see his gravely ill mother, a revelation that will soon pull him into Shanthi Devi’s orbit.

On the day they meet at the airport, their first encounter is tense and prickly. Krishnan learns that his mother is paralyzed, and he makes the painful choice to quit his job in Bombay to stay and care for her. A family doctor’s advice nudges him toward a new opportunity in Madras, recommending that he consult a renowned businessman about a job in the city. Fate intervenes when, en route to meet this man, Viswanathan is assaulted by thugs. Krishnan intervenes, carries the injured Viswanathan to a hospital, and discovers—to his astonishment—that the very businessman he was about to meet is Viswanathan in disguise: the powerful head of a thriving empire.

Krishnan is then drawn into Shanthi Devi’s company, where the factory he’s summoned to belongs to the formidable executive herself. Shanthi Devi initially refuses to hire him, but her father’s insistence coerces her to recruit Krishnan as a senior mechanic. The budding tension between them becomes more personal when Krishnan befriends Meena, Shanthi Devi’s secretary. Meena is warm and compassionate, a refreshing contrast to her boss’s stern manner, and she soon falls for Krishnan. A pivotal moment comes when Krishnan saves Shanthi Devi from a dangerous structure, lifting her to safety; she responds with a sharp slap, but in a private moment he returns the blow. Shocked by their own bravado, she reverses her stance and promotes him to Section Chief Mechanic, signaling the start of a complex, uneasy respect between them.

As time passes, Krishnan rises to leadership within the workers’ union, defeating the office staff candidate backed by Shanthi Devi. The clash between their ideologies intensifies their battles, each view shaping the other’s actions and authority within the factory and the broader workplace dynamics. In the midst of this, Meena reveals her wish to marry Krishnan. He cares for her but urges her to speak with his mother first, prioritizing the family’s consent. Shanthi Devi, determined to settle scores and secure Krishnan for herself, devises a plan to marry him as well, enlisting Krishnan’s mother in the scheme without disclosing the full intention. Krishnan, loyal to his mother, agrees, though his mother remains unaware of Shanthi Devi’s true motives. The wedding, however, fails to quiet the conflict, as Krishnan continues to lead the union even after marriage, defying Shanthi Devi’s expectations and underscoring the deep rift between them.

Shanthi Devi then shifts a policy at Devi Industries that agitates the workers, who respond with a fierce strike led by Krishnan. This upheaval prompts Viswanathan to intervene and reclaim control, taking over as chairman to salvage the company’s image. The power reversal infuriates Shanthi Devi, who begins dismantling her own home in a fit of humiliation at losing to Krishnan. Krishnan’s mother—Parvathy Amma—discovers the bitter dynamics between her son and Shanthi Devi; despite her own battle with paralysis, she succumbs to guilt and dies, a tragedy that deepens the emotional stakes for Krishnan and Meena.

The story takes a darker turn when a business rival, Sathish, launches an assassination attempt on Shanthi Devi. Krishnan intervenes once again, killing the attacker and thwarting the plot, a decisive act that triggers a painful reckoning for Shanthi Devi. In the aftermath, Meena’s steadfast devotion helps shepherd her into a new leadership role, and Shanthi Devi—though humiliated and battered by the consequences of her rivalries—reassesses her choices. As the dust settles, Meena is positioned as the new CEO, while Shanthi Devi steps back to a more domestic life, choosing to be a housewife after all the turbulent power plays.
