Two months have passed since the dramatic events of Haseen Dillruba, and Rani (Taapsee Pannu) is now residing in Agra, where she operates a beauty parlor. Meanwhile, Rishu (Vikrant Massey) is living under the alias Ravi and has taken up a job as a delivery boy, using a prosthetic hand to navigate life. To make ends meet, he also engages in various odd jobs, from appliance repairs to tutoring students. In an effort to evade capture, the couple has chosen to live apart but keeps their romance alive through phone calls, dreaming of a future escape to Thailand in two months’ time. They are committed to saving every penny to buy their tickets, with a travel agent assuring them that fake passports will take a month or two to arrange.
Meanwhile, there is unsettling news: a massive breakdown of the Hathni Kund Barrage has unleashed a horde of crocodiles into the Yamuna River, making their way toward Uttar Pradesh, including Agra. The tension in Rani’s life deepens as Abhimanyu (Sunny Kaushal), her landlady’s physician, begins to express an interest in her, which she firmly does not reciprocate. Simultaneously, Rishu faces unwanted advances from his landlady, Poonam (played by Bhumika Dube), who, though forthright about seeking only a casual fling, finds Rishu unresponsive to her propositions.
In a turn of events, Rani agrees to go to the movies with Abhimanyu, who excitedly buys tickets for the balcony, hoping for some privacy. However, that very night, with their landlords away, Rani takes a moment to invite Rishu over, completely forgetting about her plans with Abhimanyu, leaving him feeling slighted and resentful.
While Rani’s life seems to spiral, A.C.P. Kishore Rawat (Aditya Srivastava) and Inspector Manav Shukla (Saanand Verma) arrive in Agra, piecing together their connection to Neel’s murder from a book that has come to the attention of the police. The couple realizes they must be cautious and limit communication. Rishu makes a strategic move, calling Rani from a public booth to reassure her that the police have no solid evidence, urging her to stay strong.
As the investigation unfolds, Monty (Jimmy Shergill), Neel’s uncle, is relentless, motivated by revenge, and uncovers that Rani had frequently communicated with someone named Naitik, whom she claims was just a friend. As suspicion builds, Rani makes the desperate decision to marry Abhimanyu to deflect their attention away from her past. Caught off guard but keen to help, Abhimanyu agrees under the imploring condition of a platonic relationship.
Abhimanyu’s past of loss and tragedy emerges as they begin their married life together, even as he silently wishes for a deeper connection with Rani. However, everything unravels when Rani sees Poonam attempting to kiss Rishu, leaving her heartbroken. Feeling a mix of fury and emotion, Rani confronts Rishu amidst tumultuous feelings of love and betrayal. Their complicated relationship intensifies as Rani, under the influence of alcohol, mistakenly reveals that their marriage is a cover for Rishu’s identity.
In a twist of fate, Abhimanyu discovers Rishu’s hiding place and confronts him, leading to revelations of his dark past involving violence against his family. As tensions rise, Abhimanyu attacks Rani, who seeks help from the police, unveiling the horrifying truth about his deadly actions.
As the story nears a climax, a series of tragic events leads to a public spectacle meant to draw Rishu out—culminating in a dramatic scene at a railway bridge. Here, an ambush leads to a confrontation between Rishu, Rani, and Abhimanyu, culminating in a struggle that involves the dangerous waters where they are believed to meet their end, falling into a crocodile-infested river.
Monty’s relentless pursuit of the truth uncovers a shocking web of deceit and collaboration as he pieces together the fateful events at the bridge. Flashbacks reveal an elaborate scheme where Abhimanyu, Rishu, and Rani’s survival hinges on their cunning plan to evade law enforcement, leaving many to question the real identity of the casualties involved.
Months later, Rani and Abhimanyu attempt to settle into a peaceful life in a village, but the shadow of their past lingers. Rani makes a fateful decision to confront Abhimanyu about his role in Rishu’s supposed demise, ultimately leading to a dramatic choice to jump off a cliff, aiming to escape the tangled mess of their lives. However, amid all the chaos and despair, an unexpected reunion unfolds as Rishu reveals he survived the horrific attack, reigniting the hope for their shared future. Rani, against all odds, makes her escape as they find their way back to each other, defined by love and survival against the backdrop of their tumultuous experiences.

Still wondering what the ending of Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba (2024) really means? Here’s a spoiler-heavy breakdown of the final scene, major twists, and the deeper themes that shape the film’s conclusion.
In the ending of Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, the story takes a dramatic and unexpected turn as Rishu, seemingly dead after jumping into the Yamuna River, miraculously survives. Abhimanyu, who had faked Rishu’s death by detaching his prosthetic hand and leaving him at the mercy of crocodiles, had hoped to eliminate him permanently. However, Rishu’s survival fuels his desire for revenge, and he returns to confront Abhimanyu. Meanwhile, Rani keeps believing her husband is dead, having accepted his fate even while living away with Abhimanyu in a hill station. When Rani finds a note leading to Rishu’s location, they reunite and set a trap for Abhimanyu, who is shocked to find her alive. Rani then manages to fake her own death by jumping off a waterfall, convincing Abhimanyu and others that she has perished again. She and Rishu escape to Thailand to start a new life, leaving behind their tumultuous past.
The story concludes with a chilling revelation that Abhimanyu is actually the son of Dinesh Pandit, a famous pulp fiction author. It is implied that Abhimanyu may have been using his father’s name to publish stories, and his sinister nature was rooted in the twisted imagination he inherited. Abhimanyu’s madness and cruelty, combined with his desire for chaos, suggest he might seek revenge or escape imprisonment in future installments. The film hints at the possibility of a third part, where Rishu and Rani could face new dangers, as Abhimanyu’s dark persona looms over their lives. Their love has survived immense odds, but whether it can withstand the threats to come remains uncertain, leaving the story open for further twists and confrontations.
