Bank robber Carter “Doc” McCoy has unexpected luck when he is paroled from a Texas state prison, a moment he finds surprising. However, lurking behind this stroke of fortune is the betrayal of his wife, Carol, who secured his release by sleeping with the corrupt yet politically influential Jack Benyon. This clandestine arrangement weighs heavily on Doc in the ensuing days, as he grapples with both his wife’s infidelity and the ulterior motives behind his release—Benyon wants him to participate in a bank heist aimed at snatching $500,000. Despite his reservations, Doc finds himself cornered into accepting Benyon’s choice of associates, particularly the unsavory criminals Rudy Butler and Frank Jackson, which he begrudgingly agrees to.

As the trio, joined by Carol, concocts their elaborate plan, they establish a choreography of chaos that involves Rudy and Frank entering the bank to manage the crowd’s panic while Doc slips in through the back to crack the vault. In a series of methodical steps, Doc scouts the bank’s layout alongside Carol, carefully crafting a timetable that hinges on the employees’ schedules. His instincts warn him against trusting Rudy, who defies Doc’s advice by refusing to wear a bulletproof vest. The tension mounts, as with every passing day, Doc’s distrust grows, juxtaposed against the looming robbery.

As the fateful day of the heist dawns, they have set explosives at a seemingly abandoned house on the town’s edge as a strategic diversion. The heist starts off as planned; however, chaos ensues when Frank shoots a bank guard who attempts to defend the vault. With money bags in hand, Doc and Carol hastily speed away in one vehicle while Rudy and Frank take another. This alliance soon crumbles when Rudy turns on Frank, murdering him in cold blood before attempting to finish off Doc and Carol. In a tense confrontation, Doc retaliates, shooting Rudy who falls, presumed dead, into a ditch. With a false sense of security, Doc and Carol head towards Benyon’s ranch, their loot secured in tow. Little do they know, Rudy clings to life, thanks to Frank’s vest protecting him.

At Benyon’s office, a confrontation looms with Jack Benyon, portrayed by Al Lettieri, where secrets unravel and tensions ignite. In a shocking twist, as Benyon boasts about his manipulation, Carol emerges, gun raised, but instead of aiming at Doc, she eliminates Benyon. This violent turn of events only heightens the turmoil between Doc and Carol, as he wrestles with betrayal and trust issues.

Meanwhile, Rudy, fueled by survival and revenge, seeks medical help for his wound from local veterinarian Harold and his alluring wife, Fran. The dynamics of danger and seduction play out as Fran is drawn into a twisted affair with Rudy, complicating matters further for Harold, culminating in his heartbreaking demise.

As Doc and Carol attempt to flee to El Paso via train, their plans unravel due to a series of misfortunes instigated by a smooth-talking con man who deceives Carol into switching locker keys, thus absconding with their stolen fortune. This twist sends Doc into a manic chase, battling with the con man while inadvertently drawing the attention of law enforcement.

Following a harrowing train ride and a series of frantic escapes from the police, their path is riddled with obstacles, deception, and a sense of impending doom as Carol expresses her doubts about their future together. Yet, Doc assures her of his unwavering love, as the danger continues to close in around them.

In a cruel twist of fate, Rudy beats them to a rendezvous point, leading to a tense confrontation where Doc becomes embroiled in chaos once more. They narrowly escape death, but not without further bloodshed as they fend off associates and police alike. Their last escape takes them across the border into Mexico, where they find some fleeting relief and the chance to start anew, ultimately relying on the compassion of a seemingly ordinary cowboy who aids their exit from a criminal life.

In the end, Doc and Carol find themselves entangled in a world of crime, infidelity, and fierce loyalty, as they make an escape that isn’t just about money but survival and the complex web of trust between them.
