Alisha, portrayed by Deepika Padukone, is a 30-year-old yoga instructor on a challenging journey to secure investors for her buggy app, having already spent Rs 8 Lakhs. Amidst this, she has to manage her life with her unemployed writer boyfriend, Karan, whose controlling nature leaves Alisha feeling stifled, particularly because he refuses to share his writing with her. Adding to her complexities, Alisha grapples with anxiety stemming from her mother’s tragic suicide during her childhood and an estranged relationship with her father, Vinod.

When Alisha’s cousin, Tia, invites her and Karan to their beach house in Alibaug, they enter a world of wealth and interpersonal drama. Tia is engaged to Zain, a man of privilege with a past of his own. The bond between Alisha and Zain deepens quickly, both sharing painful histories which lead to flirtation. After an intimate encounter, Alisha feels remorse and attempts to return to her life with Karan. However, she is further devastated when she discovers Karan has shared his writing with Tia instead of her. This betrayal leads Alisha to reignite her connection with Zain, commencing an affair that complicates her life even more.

As Tia navigates through the aftermath of her father’s death, she plans to reconcile family matters in LA while maintaining a delicate friendship with Alisha and Karan, who have grown up together amidst shared familial ties. With their fathers once being business partners, the strain comes to light after a sudden split, coinciding with Alisha’s mother’s passing. Zain’s rise as a successful businessman is tightly knit to Tia’s father’s influence, showcasing the interconnected nature of their lives.

With Zain’s support, Alisha’s app gains new investment, and their relationship enters deeper waters. But complications arise when Karan proposes during Alisha’s birthday celebration, leading her to accept despite harboring feelings for Zain. Upon realizing Karan has kept a significant rejection of his book from her, Alisha calls off their engagement, seeking freedom from the suffocation she fears could mirror her mother’s demise.

Tensions rise when Zain’s company faces scrutiny due to a money laundering scheme involving one of his investors. Zain reassures Alisha of his commitment but soon becomes overwhelmed by pressure, leading to neglect of their relationship. The tipping point arrives when Alisha’s yoga studio is shut down, prompting a confrontation with Zain as revelations about their affair surface within business circles.

Alisha gives Zain an ultimatum—to either confess his truth to Tia or face her own revelations. During a precarious moment on Zain’s yacht, Alisha realizes Zain’s manipulative intentions, leading to a tragic confrontation in which Zain slips and drowns. Alisha, haunted by the swift turn of events, returns home only to face a miscarriage triggered by the stress of her situation.

As Tia seeks justice for Zain’s untimely death, the narrative spirals further when secrets intertwine with familial betrayal. Alisha learns of her mother’s hidden past, which propels her into despair, yet she is saved from a similar fate by her father. Two years later, Alisha’s journey has brought reconciliation with her father, and a hopeful encounter with Tia at Karan’s engagement party suggests a potential renewal of their fractured bonds, highlighting that while the past cannot be erased, it can be faced. As they confront new relationships and the shadows of history, Alisha understands that true escape comes from embracing her own narrative, acknowledging the cycle that has defined her life thus far.
