At a sprawling castle in Scotland, Ashish Kapoor [Ram Kapoor] is a powerful Indian businessman who hosts a birthday party for his close circle, a gathering that will soon peel back layers of secrecy and resentment. His dream company has collapsed in a spectacular fashion, with a debt of 20,000 crore rupees and more than 10,000 employees whose salaries have gone unpaid for over two years, forcing him to flee India to avoid imprisonment. The event draws in a web of relationships, each thread tugging toward hidden motives and fragile loyalties.
The host’s inner circle includes Kay [Amrita Puri], his secretary who harbors a massive crush and is willing to bend rules to remain close to him. Also present is Jimmy Mistry [Rahul Bose], AK’s brother-in-law, who wears a bitter edge because generations of family power fell into AK’s hands, even as Jimmy’s own ambitions simmer beneath the surface. AK’s son, Ryan Kapoor [Shashank Arora], who was neglected in childhood and has spiraled into drug addiction, arrives with his enigmatic girlfriend Gigi [Prajakta Koli], who catches every eye in a yellow dress that once belonged to AK’s late wife, a provocative memento that unsettles the room and stirs old memories.
Noor Suri [Dipannita Sharma], an ex-actress now married to Dr. Sanjay Suri [Neeraj Kabi], comes with the weight of debt and a past connected to AK’s favors, a combination that makes their present precarious. AK’s confidante and therapist Zara [Niki Aneja Walia] moves through the party with a calm, watchful presence, while Lisa [Shahana Goswami], AK’s girlfriend, navigates the room with a careful smile, accompanied by Sasha [Ishika Mehra], Lisa’s cousin who is also part of this intricate network of friendships and obligations.
When the descendants of power collide, the celebration takes a violent turn as a chandelier crashes down, narrowly missing AK and throwing the gathering into disarray. Into the chaos steps a determined CBI Officer Meera Rao [Vidya Balan], who announces that AK plans to surrender to the Government of India, a reveal that jolts everyone and shifts the mood from celebration to crisis.
Tensions flare as a heated exchange unfolds between Ryan and AK; in a tense moment, AK storms out of the castle, with Meera in pursuit. The pursuit ends abruptly when Meera is knocked unconscious with a shovel by an unseen assailant, and the rest of the partygoers descend into a fast-moving scramble. AK disappears by leaping from a cliff, a moment confirmed by Zara, who witnesses the leap. Meera takes charge of the investigation, combing through the guests’ rooms, questioning suspects, and piecing together clues that tie each attendee to one or more murders in some way.
As the clues accumulate, a pattern emerges: every person at the castle has a motive—grudges, debts, or desires that could drive them to kill AK in some manner. The story threads together a growing tangle of confessions and redirections, each new revelation sharpening the sense that something larger and more complicated lies beneath the surface. The investigation intensifies as Meera connects disparate actions and secrets, leading to a climactic unraveling of the conspiracy concealed within the opulent walls of the Scottish castle. In the final twist, the truth behind the cascade of killings is laid bare, offering a resolution that reframes what motivated the night’s shocking events and who stood to gain from AK’s downfall.

Still wondering what the ending of Neeyat (2023) really means? Here’s a spoiler-heavy breakdown of the final scene, major twists, and the deeper themes that shape the film’s conclusion.
The night that Ashish Kapoor falls from the cliff is anything but a suicide. While the storm rages, the guests discover that a hidden trapdoor beneath the balcony led Ashish to a secret ledge at the bottom of the cliff, where he staged his own death. He hoped to disappear while the authorities—especially CBI officer Mira Rao—were distracted by the murder investigation.
Mira soon learns that the real motive behind the chaos is a briefcase full of cash and documents that Ashish intends to use for his fresh start. The briefcase is first seen in the hands of Tanmay, the event manager who is actually a news reporter seeking a scoop, and his accomplice Gigi, a former TV journalist posing as Ryan’s girlfriend. Both plan to smuggle the case out of the castle in Ryan’s car.
As Mira interrogates the remaining guests, alliances crumble. Kay, a quiet guest who has been watching everyone, discovers the trapdoor and realizes Ashish is alive. She confronts Sanjay, a man who carries potassium‑based medication that could be turned into poison, and kills him in a desperate scramble for the briefcase. Kay herself is knocked unconscious by Zara, the therapist, who is trying to escape with the case after poisoning Ashish’s dog Rumi—an attempt that inadvertently prevents Ashish from drinking his poisoned champagne.
Mira catches Zara in the library, and a violent struggle ends with Mira shooting Zara. In the confusion, Ashish tries to flee, but Mira—still believing she is the law—fires a shot that kills him as well. She pockets the briefcase, leaving the surviving guests bewildered.
The twist comes when it is revealed that the Mira Rao we have followed is not the real CBI officer at all. She is actually an employee of Ashish’s cyber firm, and the lover of Devika Chellam, one of the suicide victims whose death Ashish caused. Driven by grief and a desire for vengeance, she assumed Mira’s identity to bring Ashish to justice, never anticipating the chain of betrayals she would trigger.
The film closes with a mid‑credits scene. The genuine Mira Rao (played by Shefali Shah) confronts the impostor (Vidya Balan) on a deserted stretch of road. The real officer warns that the masquerader has just begun, hinting at a cat‑and‑mouse game that could continue in a future sequel. The briefcase, now in the impostor’s possession, remains the last unanswered piece of the puzzle.
