Duke Brian Geraghty and Amber Jenna Dewan are a strapped-for-cash couple, scraping by on low-wage, grueling shifts while their neighborhood is ruled by petty crime and the constant intrusion of gangsters who steal what little they have. One brutal night, Amber comes home to find their neighbors rifling through the house, beating her, and turning their fragile sense of safety into a distant memory. When Duke returns and discovers the assault, his anger boils over, and he buys a gun, a decision that ignites a dangerous chase and pulls them deeper into a world where money, fear, and survival clash in every corner of their lives.

In the shadows of this escalating chaos, Pollen Christian Slater—a corrupt DEA agent—is after a cache of dirty money that he feels he is owed. He traces the stash to the neighbors’ house and arrives just ahead of Duke. A fierce shootout erupts, Pollen is wounded, and Duke discovers the money, initially convinced it can secure a better life for both of them. With the money in hand, Duke and Amber slip away, believing they’ve found a path to happiness, even as the danger surrounding them only grows louder and more personal.

Duke and Amber’s flight becomes a cat-and-mouse game as Pollen wakes and two other agents close in on the same prize. The couple bolt from place to place, eventually buying a car and driving toward a life away from their old world. They check into an upscale Albuquerque hotel, where a few days of gambling and carefree celebration give way to more serious commitments: Amber reveals she is pregnant, a revelation that makes their raid against fate feel almost noble, even as the tension between desire and danger remains constant. The pursuit intensifies when a room-service man seizes the money, forcing Duke to improvise a risky retrieval, and Amber is ambushed by Pollen, who threatens to kill her unless she helps locate the stash. She deflects with courage, cutting him with a shard of glass and killing one of the other pursuing detectives, then the chase resumes in earnest as Duke and Amber try to outrun the ever-closer net.

With the money hidden as a bargaining chip, they race to stay ahead of their pursuers. Pollen and Morton Craig Sheffer close the gap, and the couple hides out at a warehouse where fear and resolve collide. When Pollen finally reveals that Amber has been taken, a brutal confrontation ensues: Duke fights back against the relentless onslaught, and Pollen uses an iron pipe to overpower him. In a final act of desperate defiance, Amber shoots Pollen with Morton’s shotgun, but Duke is gravely wounded in the struggle. A lone detective then manipulates the evidence to cast blame away from the real players, leaving Pollen to face consequences he hadn’t anticipated.

The closing moments pull back to a stark, quiet truth: Amber, now a mother, feeds a baby boy in a new suburban home, a scene that suggests both hard-won survival and the price paid for a life rebuilt from stolen money and broken promises.
