Mammootty as P. Sukumaran is an up-and-coming youth wing leader of a minor party within the ruling coalition. His wife, Valsala Menon, a college lecturer, keeps the family life running and cares for their school-going son, Unni. She grows increasingly tired of Sukumaran’s inattention to her and to the family, while he is pulled into a world where party leaders load him with tough,甚至 dirty tasks and where his junior colleagues quietly accept bribes in his name. The constant intrusion into privacy and finances begins to wear down the home life, turning the everyday into a pressure cooker of loyalty, sacrifice, and temptation.
Sukumaran’s political duties push him into the public eye as he leads a protest at the Secretariat, only to be battered by a police lathi charge. He also embarks on a hunger strike to back the party’s stance, a move that spans more than five days and tests the limits of his personal resolve. When the hunger strike finally stretches into an endurance test, Valsala steps into the fray and storms the party meeting, forcing the leadership to end the protest. Behind the scenes, Sukumaran has borrowed money from several people who start harassing Valsala at the college, and he even pawns most of her jewelry. She discovers that he hid her long-awaited transfer order for selfish reasons, a revelation that shatters trust and pushes her to leave for her parents’ house, seeking space and dignity.
News soon arrives that Sukumaran has been appointed as the new minister, a twist that changes the balance of power at home and in the party. He is sworn in and begins enforcing strict control over his personal staff, including the immediate dismissal of the corrupt Kurudamannil Sasi. Yet public perception grows murky as a bogus newspaper interview about Valsala stirs trouble. She visits the ministerial home, hoping for reconciliation, but Sukumaran remains distant. She eventually takes charge at a new college, stepping into a leadership role that mirrors her own ambitions and resilience.
Back in the ministerial orbit, Sukumaran finds himself missing the warmth of his family. He visits places saturated with memories of happier times with Valsala, and the ministerial staff grows worried about his erratic behavior. Valsala tries to reach out with a letter, but Sasi intercepts and destroys it, deepening the rift. The climax unfolds when Sukumaran goes to Valsala’s college to inaugurate their golden jubilee celebrations. While Valsala delivers the opening speech and their son presents Sukumaran with a bouquet, all eyes turn toward him. In a powerful, quietly revolutionary moment, he confesses how a lack of family life disrupted his ability to lead and fulfill his ministerial duties, paying tribute to the wife who had been his backbone in the early days of his political journey. He attempts to apologize publicly, only to be met with an emotionally charged interruption from Valsala. The film closes with Sukumaran and Valsala walking down the dais together, their son between them, signaling a renewed, united family foundation that underpins a reconsidered sense of public service.
