In the closing moments of Jalsa, Maya finally decides to confront the secret she has been carrying since the night of the accident. With the help of Rohini, the eager rookie reporter, she records a confession that admits she was the driver who struck Rukhsana’s daughter. As she is about to send the tape, a phone call from her mother warns her that Rukhsana has taken a large sum of money from Maya’s house and has already left with Maya’s son for the beach. Panic and guilt surge through Maya, and she rushes to the coast, only to be stalled in a traffic jam caused by the very same police officers who helped conceal the truth.

When she finally reaches the shoreline, she finds her son safe and Rukhsana sitting beside him, calm but visibly changed. The film ends on this quiet tableau, leaving the audience to wonder whether the truth will ever surface and what the price of that silence has become for both women.

The resolution is deliberately ambiguous. Maya’s act of confessing signals a personal reckoning, yet the confession remains unheard by the wider world. Rukhsana’s decision to take the child away—bringing him to the sea—can be read as a subtle retaliation, a way of showing Maya the fragility of the life she takes for granted, and perhaps a quiet acknowledgement that justice, for her, has been bought and settled. The ending therefore underscores the film’s central question: what is the value of truth when it collides with survival, class, and the desire to protect the ones we love?
