In a tale rooted in enduring village rivalries, two neighboring communities are torn apart by the feud between Venkatachalam and Kalingarayan. Venkatachalam, a peace-loving man, watches his village wither under Kalingarayan’s malice, who even occupies the fields around the Lakshmi Narasimha temple. To fortify his people for the battles ahead, Venkatachalam hatches a brutal plan: he sets out to form an army by sacrificing a male child from a family, choosing his younger son Ezhumalai as the intended sacrifice.
Years pass, and the story shifts to a new thread. Anjali, the pampered daughter of Nagalingam—a fierce factionist—grows up under the care of her maternal uncle. She crosses paths with Ezhumalai, who runs a dance school, and is swept up in a budding affection for him. Ezhumalai, meanwhile, is a widower with a son, which complicates their romance. Nagalingam, wary of their bond, arranges Anjali’s marriage to his nephew, the son of Kalingarayan. Still, Anjali cannot deny her feelings and declares her love for Ezhumalai. When the wedding plans accelerate, the groom’s henchmen chase the lovers aboard a train. In a tense confrontation, an enraged Ezhumalai reveals himself, the henchmen flee, and he learns Anjali’s true identity, while also unravelling his own past.
In the backstory, Ezhumalai grows into a gallant figure who dares warn Kalingarayan to stay on the right side of peace. On the eve of a grand celebration, Kalingarayan makes a bold move, and Ezhumalai slays him. This act draws Nagalingam’s ire, and he vows to destroy Ezhumalai and his family. To prevent further bloodshed, Venkatachalam attempts to secure a bride for Ezhumalai and chooses Lakshmi, a generous woman whose sensitivity to violence earns her respect. Venkatachalam, however, hides the truth about his son’s past profession, a deception Lakshmi eventually discerns and forgives, moved by Ezhumalai’s goodness. Ezhumalai’s three siblings arrive from abroad with their families; they are boastful and careless, yet Ezhumalai grows fond of them, though they often snide at him.
Lakshmi’s patience wears thin when she senses a lack of support within her new family, and she challenges Ezhumalai’s ways. He exiles her when she returns to her parents’ home and she gives birth to a son, a moment that tests their bond. As the siblings prepare to come back, Nagalingam’s men strike, and Ezhumalai protects his family at great personal risk, managing to send them away safely. The courage of his actions earns the forgiveness and respect of his brothers, who, after some soul-searching, plead for reconciliation. Yet tragedy strikes when Nagalingam tries to kill Ezhumalai’s son; Lakshmi steps forward to shield the child and is fatally stabbed. In her final moments, she urges Ezhumalai to end the cycle of violence, a plea echoed by Venkatachalam.
In the present, Nagalingam launches an attack on Venkatachalam, but his fury turns to astonishment when he encounters Ezhumalai back in his homeland. Ezhumalai hands Anjali over to Nagalingam, and a poignant moment follows: Ezhumalai’s son speaks his first words, calling Anjali his mother. With this revelation, Venkatachalam urges Ezhumalai to bring Anjali into the child’s life as a true mother. As Anjali’s wedding plans unfold, Ezhumalai confronts Nagalingam and disrupts the match, recognizing Anjali’s presence. The drama climaxes at the hospital on the wedding day, where Anjali has taken a drastic step—she has removed her uterus to prevent the birth of a child. In the end, Ezhumalai embraces Anjali with wholehearted acceptance, choosing love and family over vengeance.
