Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai

Sushil Verma is a surgeon who lives on the Shimla Hospital grounds with his aging mother and younger sister Munni. After his father dies, a close family friend pays his medical school fees, creating a debt his mother feels must be repaid. He juggles demanding hospital duties with a crowded home life in Shimla.

Karuna, a nurse, arrives at Shimla Hospital and meets Sushil during an emergency operation. The attraction between them is clear, but they keep their feelings restrained given their roles and the social expectations surrounding debt and marriage.

On a nurses' beach day trip, Karuna meets Munni, who injures herself while playing. Karuna takes Munni back to the Verma home, unaware that the house belongs to Sushil, and immediately begins to help with the household and care.

Karuna seamlessly steps in to cook, clean and manage the household, relieving Sushil's aging mother and sister. Her practical care deepens Sushil's affection and sense of partnership.

Sushil's mother organises a trip to Kashmir, and guilt-trips Sushil into marrying Kusum, the daughter of the man who funded his medical education. The debt context pressures him to a mismatch instead of pursuing Karuna.

Upon returning to Shimla, Sushil marries Kusum, honoring his mother's wishes. Karuna watches from the sidelines, devastated but choosing to stay silent for now.

Karuna hides her heartbreak while continuing to support the family. Kusum becomes jealous of Sushil's preference for Karuna and starts to manipulate the mother-in-law and Munni.

Kusum's mistreatment escalates; Sushil orders her out of the house, and she leaves for Kashmir. The household is shaken by the sudden rift.

Dr. Verma's mother realises her mistake, recognizing that Karuna would have been the better wife for Sushil. This confession weighs on the family as they confront the consequences of their choices.

To avoid scandal, Karuna moves to another hospital to start anew, keeping distance from the Verma family. She hopes for a chance to recover emotionally and professionally.

Kusum resents losing Sushil and plots revenge against Karuna, believing she can still destroy the relationship that has grown between Karuna and Sushil.

Dr. Verma discovers Kusum's scheming and pursues her, leading to a cliff-top high-speed car chase. Kusum dies in the crash, removing the immediate threat to Karuna.

With the danger resolved, Karuna and Sushil reunite, choosing to embrace their love. The family begins to heal as they confront the consequences of their earlier choices.

The film ends with a sense of cautious hope for the future as Karuna and Sushil look ahead together, having weathered debt, jealousy, and tragedy.
