Pyaar Prema Kaadhal

The film follows Sree, an innocent and easygoing IT employee from Chennai who still lives with his parents. He harbors a quiet crush on Sindhuja, a modern, independent woman who works in the office opposite his. When Sindhuja moves to his workplace and invites him to hang out at a club, Sree eagerly agrees, hoping for a glimpse into her world. At the club, he discovers a different side of her: she drinks alcohol, swears freely, and revels in nightlife, revealing that she doesn’t even know her own birthday because her mother died when she was very young. Despite this shock, the two slowly grow closer, and Sree finds himself falling in love.

Their bond deepens after a dramatic moment: the two get stuck in an elevator and share an impulsive kiss. Sindhuja brings Sree home, and they end up having sex. Afterward, Sree confesses his love, only to be met with a blunt rejection; Sindhuja declares they are only good friends and dismisses their earlier intimacy as a casual indulgence. Devastated, Sree leaves her house, while Sindhuja makes several attempts to soothe him. Eventually, he agrees to stay friends and continue hanging out as before. A later party test drives their dynamics again when Sindhu tries to get intimate with a drunk Sree; he feels manipulated and voices his anger, even publicly revealing that they had slept together. Sindhu confesses that she loves him too, but his stubborn mindset leaves her disheartened, turning the party into an awkward affair.

In a bid to salvage the relationship, Sree seeks help from the local tailor Thangaraj and his colleague Satish, and he even joins the dance classes led by Sindhu’s father. Through these efforts, the couple begins to rebuild trust and patch up the cracks between them. Following Sindhu’s wish, they decide to start a life together without telling Sree’s parents, who would surely disapprove. Sree then crafts a plan to keep his parents in the dark about his romantic life, moving into a rented house near them with Sindhu. As time passes, Sindhu’s mood grows more irritable, yet Sree keeps steering the relationship with patience and persistence.

One quiet night, Sindhu’s mood swings peak, and Sree reveals a birthday detail he had traced after considerable effort. The small birthday moment softens her mood, giving hope that their bond might endure. Yet the couple’s long-term plans collide with real-world pressures: Sree attempts to push for marriage, while Sindhu remains fixated on her dream of opening a restaurant in Los Angeles. At the same time, Sree’s mother pushes for a suitable match, creating a tug-of-war between obligation and love. A family event—a dance show featuring Sindhu’s father—adds fuel to the fire: Sree arrives late due to his mother’s illness, and Sindhu’s frustration grows as the wedding deadline looms nearer.

When Sindhu refuses to marry for convenience, Sree decides to break up and accept a marriage arranged by his parents. The day before the ceremony, Sindhu comes to bid him farewell; on the wedding day, he laments his past missed opportunities and regrets not acknowledging Sindhu’s mother’s love. Realizing the weight of his choices, Sindhu races back to the wedding venue, only to discover the ceremony has already concluded, and she leaves in tears.

Three years pass. Sindhu has realized her dream and opened a restaurant, while Sree is on the path to divorce. A family visit reveals that Sree’s parents and Sindhu’s father are aware of how deeply they still care for each other. The narrative takes a dark turn as Sree’s wife’s abortion becomes a painful revenge for a prior argument, prompting Sree’s mother to acknowledge that living apart might be healthier than a doomed marriage. In a final twist, the parents realize both lovers have disappeared for three days, sparking concern. The film closes on a provocative note: Sree and Sindhu are seen having sex in secret, but their mindsets have inverted—the man now leans toward a live-in arrangement, while Sindhu prefers the security of marriage.
