Kwong Mei-Bo, Stephy Tang Lai-Yan is a bright, hopeful woman who believes she’s building a simple, joyful future. After college, she opens a sweets shop with her longtime boyfriend Jun, imagining a steady path toward marriage once their little business finds its rhythm. But life twists when she reencounters Kei Kei, her old Taiwanese classmate who is drawn to Jun’s hard work and kind nature. Kei Kei ruthlessly sets her sights on Jun, caring little for Bo’s feelings, and the dream she has nurtured begins to crumble as Bo loses both the love she valued and the shop she poured herself into.

Meanwhile, Ah-Man, Leila Tong, Bo’s close friend who spends much time on the phone, lives a life filled with short relationships that she keeps from her slow, gentle boyfriend Fung. Fung, played by Terry Wu, is patient but divided; he’s juggling his own desires while trying to be there for Man, all the while facing the reality that Man’s actions sometimes undermine their bond. The tension between devotion and neglect runs through their arc, and Fung ultimately decides he cannot be anyone’s afterthought, especially when he becomes aware of another relationship—Min, the coworker’s girlfriend, portrayed by Miki Yeung Oi-Gan—a situation that pushes both Man and Fung toward a painful but clarifying breakup.

Bo’s life takes a turn when she becomes a makeup artist in a mall, and a party held by her boss Kuen becomes a crossroads. There, Bo recognizes her old neighbor Keung, a former crush who pretends not to remember her. Keung, Alex Fong Lik-Sun, is a conman who has his own complicated history with deception. Bo’s boss’s wedding plans unravel when the fiancée vanishes with the life savings, prompting Bo to enlist Keung’s help—yet not for romance, but to use his skills to outwit Kei Kei and give Bo a measure of revenge for all she has endured.

The story deepens as Bo encounters Yan, Linda Chung, Yan’s family planning a move to Singapore. Yan reveals the complexity of Keung’s past—how he almost drained money she trusted him with, yet the two have forgiven each other, only for new tensions to surface as Keung, in a drunken moment, kisses Bo again. This moment rekindles a dangerous, unresolved tension between Bo and Keung, a tension that runs parallel to Kei Kei’s manipulations.

Keung’s long, tangled web unfolds with mounting consequences. Kei Kei’s scheming—including the involvement of her cousin who’s been duped in the past—leads to a cascade of losses for Bo and Jun. Kei Kei swipes the money from Jun’s shop and vanishes, a betrayal that threatens Bo’s livelihood and faith in love. Yet Bo and Jun press on, and their bond grows resilient as they find a way to repair what was damaged.

As Keung’s plan to expose Kei Kei continues, he witnesses Kei Kei’s downfall and witnesses the restoration of Bo and Jun’s relationship. Keung’s actions have a price, though: after a dramatic chase and a brutal beating by his thug companions, he collapses on the street near Bo and Jun’s restaurant. Bo, unaware of the danger at first, learns only later that Keung has died from his injuries, a cruel twist that leaves her to process both love lost and a life-altering act of mercy.

The film closes with a bittersweet reversal of expectations. Bo finally meets Man in real life, but discovers that Man’s new boyfriend is Jun—the very man Bo once believed she had lost. The ending leaves a lingering reflection on the power of truth and the shapes that love and lies can take. The message lingers: love can reveal itself through acts of care and sacrifice, but lies—whether intended to protect or to deceive—cast long shadows that only time and honesty can begin to mend.
