Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai

Dr. Sushil K. Verma Raaj Kumar is a skilled surgeon at Shimla Hospital and lives in a doctor’s house on the hospital grounds with his aging mother and his younger sister Munni Kumari Naaz. After his father dies, a family friend, Om Prakash Om Prakash, covers his medical school fees, creating a debt that his mother believes must be repaid. Karuna Meena Kumari, a nurse at the hospital, first meets him during an emergency operation, and a quiet, mutual attraction forms, though they keep their feelings restrained.

On a nurses’ beach day, Karuna meets Munni Kumari Naaz again, and the young girl injures herself while playing. Karuna takes Munni back to her house to help, not realizing that the home belongs to Dr. Verma. She immediately steps in to handle cooking, cleaning, and caring for his aging mother, who is too ill to manage the household alone. Sushil comes home to see this and his heart grows warmer toward Karuna’s quiet competence and warmth.

However, the matriarch of the family arranges a Kashmir trip and guilt-trips Sushil into marrying Kusum [Nadira], the daughter of the man who funded his education. They return to Shimla, and Karuna is devastated when she learns the arrangement. Although she conceals her hurt for a time, Kusum’s jealousy over Sushil’s apparent preference for Karuna grows, and she begins to mistreat both the mother-in-law and the sister-in-law. Sushil ultimately orders Kusum out of the house, and she returns to Kashmir.

Mrs. K. Verma [Pratima Devi] then realises the mistake of forcing a match with Kusum instead of Karuna. To avoid scandal, Karuna moves to another hospital, while Kusum vows revenge. Dr. Verma uncovers the plot and confronts Kusum, leading to a cliff-top high-speed car chase that ends with Kusum’s death. The film closes with the hopeful reunion of Karuna and Sushil.
