Achootty, a weathered fisherman, lives with his daughter, Radha. He is uneducated but cherishes education for his child, dreaming she might become a doctor one day. His hopes are tested when Radha falls in love with her childhood friend, Raghavan. The news shocks him, and in a moment of anger he strikes out at Raghavan, warning his daughter away from a path he cannot approve of. Kochuraman, who is Raghavan’s father, urges Achootty to accept Radha’s choice, arguing that love and family ties deserve a chance. But Achootty, stubborn and protective of tradition, refuses to loosen his grip, and the friction between the two families deepens, with Kochuraman growing increasingly resentful.

Radha and Raghavan, however, elope and marry, leaving Achootty shattered. He withdraws from his daughter, and the house grows quiet with a new silence—the absence of her warmth and the burden of his own misgivings. In time, the young Raghavan proves himself capable and diligent, showing that he can be a steady provider and a devoted husband. His efforts begin to earn a muted, reluctant respect from Achootty, though the elder man never fully admits it in public. He taunts his son-in-law at every turn, daring him to prove his worth by catching a shark, and challenging him to speak to Achootty with earned trust rather than fear.

Driven by pride and the pull of the sea, Raghavan finally decides to test his mettle. He sets out alone on a catamaran, chasing a dangerous catch, and vanishes into the vast dark. The village grows tense: some mourn, others speculate that the sea has claimed him, and others whisper that Achootty himself may be responsible. On a stormy night, fear grips the shore as searchers hesitate to brave the waters. Kochuraman and a group of villagers press their accusations, intensifying the chill of suspicion around Achootty, who is also accused by some for the loss.

As the storm rages, Radha believes her father to be guilty of harming her husband, further widening the rift in the family. Yet in a decisive turn, Achootty ventures back into the sea. He finds the wreckage of Raghavan’s boat and, in a tense moment of rescue, pulls his son-in-law from the broken craft and carries him to safety on shore. The truth about Achootty’s innocence comes to light, but the emotional damage lingers, leaving him feeling abandoned by a community that doubted him.

In the end, with both heartbroken and weathered, Achootty seeks the sea once more, stepping back into the waters that have always given him purpose and, at times, punished him. He leaves the shore with a quiet, solemn resolve, noting that the sea remains the one entity that has loved him unconditionally, in a world that often holds him at arm’s length.
