Jakub Procházka is six months into a solitary space mission to study a mysterious dust cloud named Chopra, lurking beyond Jupiter. As the Czech mission races to reach the cloud slightly ahead of a rival South Korean expedition, Jakub grapples with a deep sense of loneliness, missing his wife, Lenka, and the unborn daughter they were planning to raise together. Lenka’s voice remains distant, and a painful distance widens between them after he left to pursue the mission, forcing Jakub to confront the ache of being apart from his family.

A legal and emotional barrier stands in the way of their connection: Commissioner Tuma, Jakub’s commanding officer, blocks Lenka’s message to him to shield him from a potential collapse in morale. With no word from Lenka for days, Jakub’s isolation intensifies until a strange encounter changes the dynamic aboard the ship. He discovers a spider-like creature with telepathic abilities hidden in a compartment, a presence he names Hanuš. This enigmatic being wants to understand humans and to alleviate Jakub’s mounting loneliness, offering companionship that could redefine Jakub’s experience of the voyage.

Through conversation with this otherworldly observer, Hanuš delves into Jakub’s memories, revealing painful chapters from his past. Jakub’s father was an informant for the state party and was killed when Jakub was young. He had met Lenka but often prioritized his career over their relationship, even leaving her when she suffered a miscarriage. When Hanuš presents Jakub with an implanted memory of that miscarriage—one in which Jakub was not present—Jakub feels a sharp guilt and a renewed distance from humanity, prompting Hanuš to withdraw in disappointment, leaving Jakub feeling abandoned yet again.

Seeking reconciliation, Jakub makes arrangements with Peter, a technician and trusted friend, to deliver a message to Lenka asking for forgiveness for his neglect. In response, Hanuš returns, and a sobering revelation follows: the telepathic creature is dying from a parasitic infection that has wiped out its entire species. This news deepens the sense of urgency aboard the ship as they press onward toward Chopra.

When the two finally reach Chopra, it is revealed to be more than a celestial phenomenon—a relic from the dawn of the universe where all moments of time exist simultaneously. In this awe-inspiring yet perilous dimension, Hanuš chooses to depart to die in space, and Jakub follows. Within Chopra’s timeless boundaries, Jakub comes to a profound realization: his deepest wish is to be with his wife. Lenka appears to him in a forest scene as a rusalka, a mythic figure that embodies their shared longing. Tragically, Hanuš succumbs to the infection as Jakub makes his choice.

Rescued by a South Korean vessel, Jakub and Lenka finally reconnect and begin to repair the fractures in their relationship. The journey through solitude, memory, and a universe where time folds upon itself culminates in a renewed commitment to one another, underscoring themes of forgiveness, the weight of the past, and the enduring power of love even across vast distances and impossible odds.
