Spaceman

In the film “Spaceman,” the story ends with Jakub Prochazka choosing to turn away from the heroic role that society expects of him. Throughout the story, he struggles with his traumatic childhood and the loss of his wife, Lenka, whose miscarriage and emotional distance from him leave him feeling isolated. After surviving a space mission and escaping captivity, Jakub abandons the idea of being a hero for the state and instead decides to seek peace for himself. He visits Lenka one last time but cannot bring himself to face her, choosing instead to leave like a ghost, symbolizing his acceptance of their fractured relationship and his own emotional healing.

When Jakub learns about a government scandal involving his old enemies, particularly Radislav Zajic, the Shoe Man, he sees an opportunity for redemption. He confronts Zajic, who reveals that he orchestrated much of Jakub’s suffering—the space mission, his broken marriage—yet insists that Jakub’s choices were his own. Zajic reminds Jakub that he is more than a product of past hatred and that he has the power to choose his future. This realization prompts Jakub to reject the cycle of revenge and anger, and he finally embraces a desire for simplicity and peace. The story concludes with Jakub settling into his family home in Streda, free from the burdens of heroism and vengeance, hoping for a chance to rebuild his life and perhaps reconnect with Lenka someday. The ending is about finding peace within oneself, leaving behind the chaos of the past, and choosing a humble, meaningful life.
