In the film’s climax, the low‑rank angel Gabriel‑who has been stripped of his wings‑takes a desperate gamble: he forces a literal exchange of lives between Arj, the down‑on‑his‑luck handyman‑who has just been fired and is living in his car‑and Jeff, the pampered tech‑entrepreneur who had hired Arj as his personal assistant. Arj stubbornly refuses—after months of poverty, the prospect of returning to a life of cash‑strapped odd jobs feels unbearable. Gabriel, meanwhile, restores Jeff’s memory, and Jeff, now living in a cheap motel, begins to feel the sting of his former entitlement.

After a brief “fair‑play” deal that lets each man taste the other’s world for a few days, Arj’s newfound confidence collapses. He pushes his lover Elena into a plan to jet off to Paris, ignoring her union work, and in a reckless attempt to chase her he crashes his car and falls into a coma. While Arj lies unconscious, Jeff and Gabriel scramble to survive: Jeff, used to a life of ease, flounders at menial jobs, while Gabriel, now human, takes a dishwasher’s shift and discovers the simple pleasures of hamburgers and milkshakes.

Arj eventually awakens, but pretends to have lost his memory so he can stay rich. The ruse unravels when he brandishes the expensive watches he once owned and shoots at Jeff, who had broken into the party to steal them. In that chaotic moment Arj admits he’s only playing dumb, and he finally agrees to reverse the swap—if he truly believes his original life is worth living.

Seeing Elena again, Arj realizes that wealth cannot buy the connection he cherishes. He chooses to give up his fortune, walks away from the hardware‑store job he once despised, and urges Gabriel to reclaim his celestial rank. Jeff, humbled by his stint on the bottom rung, confronts his company’s board and pushes for better treatment of the working class. With both men having learned the limits of their former worlds, the three friends reunite, and Gabriel’s angelic status is restored.

The movie ends on a whimsical note: Arj leaves a taco on Gabriel’s doorstep, a nod to the human cravings Gabriel discovered while mortal. As the taco lifts off the plate, it hints that even an angel can miss the simple, messy joy of being human.
