Stacy, now adorned with the title of Princess of Belgravia, finds herself navigating the complexities of royal life, while her friend Margaret prepares for her ascension to the throne of Montenaro. Following the unfortunate demise of the king and the unexpected abdication by his son, Howard, Margaret confronts the heavy burden of leadership and, in her uncertainty, ends her relationship with Kevin, who has since opened a bakery in Chicago with Olivia.
In a twist of fate, Stacy makes an unexpected stop in Chicago on her way to the much-anticipated coronation. It is here that she discovers Kevin, grappling with heartache and desolation following their breakup. When Olivia reveals that she overlooked sending in the coronation RSVP, Stacy takes it upon herself to convince Kevin that he should join her and Prince Edward for this momentous occasion. Despite their own relationship troubles—where Stacy’s duty as a princess has started to overshadow her romance—Kevin reluctantly agrees.
Upon their arrival, the reunion between Kevin and Margaret is heartfelt yet bittersweet, as they assist in adorning the palace for a joyful Christmas celebration. However, beneath the festive cheer lies Margaret’s melancholic thoughts about her past with Kevin. The evening takes an unexpected turn when a dance is interrupted by the cunning Lady Fiona Pembroke, Margaret’s cousin, who has her own nefarious plans brewing.
Fiona, having squandered her family’s meager fortune, concocts an audacious scheme: to assume Margaret’s identity, become crowned queen, and seize the royal treasury. With the assistance of her loyal yet misguided servants, Reggie and Mindy, she begins to plot her transformation, even going so far as to study Margaret’s appearance and upcoming engagements.
Feeling the strain of her royal responsibilities, Margaret confides in Kevin about her struggles to balance her duties with their relationship. Complicating matters further is Count Antonio Rossi, her chief of staff, who attempts to woo her while seeding doubt about Kevin’s place in her life.
Determined to mend their fraying bond, Stacy and Margaret hatch a plan to swap identities once again. This allows Stacy to experience life without the constraints of royalty and spend meaningful time with Kevin, while Margaret tackles her official agenda. This clever ruse, however, leads to unforeseen chaos when Reggie and Mindy mistakenly kidnap Stacy, believing her to be Margaret.
As Fiona’s plot thickens, she finds herself confronted by Margaret, who swiftly realizes the gravity of the situation. With Prince Edward by her side, they race to rescue Stacy, thwarting Fiona’s plans, while Reggie and Mindy face justice for their actions.
Just before the grand coronation is set to commence, Margaret and Stacy reveal Fiona’s deceptions, prompting chaos as Fiona’s true identity is uncovered. In a final twist, she confesses her schemes and exposes Kevin’s departure, feeling rejected after Olivia’s misleading words.
However, love prevails! Just as Kevin is about to board a flight away from Montenaro, he is intercepted by the duo, and in a spontaneous moment of passion, he and Margaret tie the knot right then and there, officiated hastily by a priest nearby. Meanwhile, Stacy and Edward reaffirm their commitment to one another, vowing to be more considerate of each other’s needs.
As the celebrations commence, Margaret is crowned Queen of Montenaro amid cheers from her friends and supporters, including a rather subdued Fiona, escorted by the authorities. The joyous occasion highlights the strength of love and friendship, reminding everyone that true fulfillment often lies in the connections we cherish the most.
