The Jade Emperor, Patrick Dunn, is offering a reward for a plan to boost Heaven’s economy. When Thunder God, Ronald Cheng, submits his proposal, the Saint of Nine Heavens, Mia Yam, reminds him of a past good deed: thirty years ago he descended to Earth and helped a chubby boy named Ding Don, guiding him to stay on the right path. The Thunder God believed his effort would be rewarded, but the Saint tells him there was a promise he made to the kid—that he would come forward to help if Ding Don ever faced trouble. Now that moment has arrived, and Ding Don is in need of protection.

Ding Don, now in his thirties, lives with his beautiful wife Cheng Choi, Louisa So Yuk-Wah, and his younger brother-in-law, Cheng Wo, Alex Fong Lik-Sun. By day he runs a department store as a director, yet he endures constant pressure and bullying from his sharp-tanded superior, Pat Sau-kong, Tony Leung Ka Fai. On the personal front, his household is a mix of affection and trouble: his wife’s family life, the looming debts carried by his brother-in-law’s gambling situation, and the shadow of loan sharks that threaten their stability. The latter strain is tied to Miki, Miki Yeung, a young woman drawn into a cycle of debt and risk, which adds another layer of danger to Ding Don’s already delicate world.

Meanwhile, the Saint of Nine Heavens uncovers a chilling forecast in the Life and Death Collection book: on New Year’s Eve, Ding Don’s life will be endangered. To avert this fate, Ronald Cheng must navigate a maze of divine intervention, earthly loyalties, and unforeseen consequences. The plan to shield him hinges on the Thunder God’s ability to wield his magical powers correctly, yet his improvisations quickly spiral into chaos because he miscasts spells and underestimates the intricacies of mortal life.
