The narrative unfolds through the perspective of Omkar, portrayed by Ritvik Sahore as the young version and Aparshakti Khurana as the elder, who is the nephew of the legendary wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat (played by Aamir Khan). Set against the backdrop of the small village of Balali in Haryana, India, the film is based on a remarkable true story.

The tale begins with Mahavir, who is disheartened after viewing the dismal performance of Indian wrestlers during the Olympic games. He dreams of witnessing his son bring home a gold medal. However, his life takes a different turn as he and his wife Daya Shobha (Sakshi Tanwar) welcome four daughters—Geeta (young: Zaira Wasim, elder: Fatima Sana Shaikh), Babita (young: Suhani Bhatnagar, elder: Sanya Malhotra), Ritu, and Sangita)—into their family while facing societal pressure and disappointment.

After years of feeling hopeless, Mahavir’s resolve is reignited when he learns of his daughters’ wrestling prowess. With a spark of determination, he decides that Geeta and Babita will abandon traditional gender roles and embark on the journey of becoming wrestlers. He takes on the role of their strict coach, demanding early morning training, a rigorous diet, and discipline while harshly cutting their hair when they rebel against the training.

As the girls initially balk at the demanding lifestyle, they undergo a transformation after witnessing the fate of their friend Sunita, who faces child marriage. This realization strengthens their resolve, and they begin to train vigorously under Mahavir’s guidance.

Geeta takes to the wrestling mat, showcasing her skills despite initial resistance from the community. Although she faces setbacks, including a loss in her first match, she rises to the occasion, earning respect and admiration, eventually leading her and Babita to triumph in subsequent competitions.

However, as Geeta shifts to the National Sports Academy for advanced training, she struggles with the new coaching techniques and the distractions of a new lifestyle. Her relationship with Mahavir becomes strained, as training methods clash and personal focus falters. When Babita joins her in the academy, they both navigate their identities as athletes and daughters.

A tumultuous journey ensues filled with challenges, self-doubt, and the drive to reclaim their father’s dreams. When the 2010 Commonwealth Games arrive, Geeta stands at the precipice of history, fighting against not only formidable competitors but also the obstacles set by her very own coach.

In a gripping final match, she remembers her father’s words, leading her to a groundbreaking victory—India’s first gold medal in women’s wrestling. As the national anthem echoes, Mahavir rushes to embrace Geeta, marking a moment of profound pride, as he finally acknowledges their collective achievement with a heartfelt, “Well-done!” This powerful story of determination and the breaking of societal norms leaves an indelible mark, showcasing the significance of family, dreams, and relentless perseverance.
