Former Green Beret Louis Stevens, Mark Dacascos, returns to his Miami hometown after finishing military service in Brazil, only to discover his old high school has become a haven for gangs and drug dealers. With his capoeira skills, he drives several drug dealers off the school grounds, showing a rhythm and grace that catch the eye of those who once taught him.
Mr. Kerrigan, Geoffrey Lewis, one of Stevens’ old teachers, recognizes the positive influence Stevens could have and tasks him with teaching capoeira to a handful of at‑risk students. He clears out an abandoned fire station and transforms it into a makeshift training space where lessons unfold, discipline builds, and a quiet hope begins to spread among the students.
Among the new class is Orlando Oliveiras, Ryan Bollman. The city’s dangerous leader, Silverio Oliveiras, Paco Christian Prieto, is a master of capoeira as well and soon takes notice of Stevens. The rivalry intensifies when Silverio confronts Stevens in a brutal duel, leaving him battered and reeling. The sight of this defeat steels Orlando’s resolve, and he becomes determined to learn everything he can from Stevens, hoping to master the art and protect his peers.
As Stevens’ group trains, their progress grows quickly, and the principal envisions a district‑wide capoeira program that could transform schools across the area. The program gains momentum, and after a field trip, Stevens encounters Silverio again, who declares war on him and his ambitious plan.
Silverio’s gang unleashes terror on the high school, and Kerrigan’s classroom is set ablaze. Donovan, Ryan Bollman, a gifted student with a bright musical talent, is killed in the attack, shocking the community and sealing Stevens’ fate in the eyes of the administration. He is banished from the school grounds, and the capoeira program is abruptly terminated, crushed by fear and anger.
In a bold act of retaliation, Stevens infiltrates Silverio’s chop shop, overpowers the workers, and torches a cash‑filled car, signaling that the conflict has moved from the gym to the streets. Silverio orders his gang to bring Stevens to him alive, and Orlando races to fetch help as the tension reaches a boiling point. After a grueling sequence of confrontations, Stevens is captured and led to a bonfire where Silverio awaits.
Yet Stevens’ capoeira students rally to defend their mentor, forming a stubborn line of resistance. The moment of truth arrives as a final, decisive duel unfolds: Stevens confronts Silverio and, through a fusion of skill, will, and rhythm, defeats him. As the police arrive and the gang scatters, Silverio’s hold on the neighborhood begins to crack and finally dissolves.
With the danger behind them, Stevens’ capoeira program proves its value—his students graduate from high school, inspired and empowered. In a celebratory graduation ceremony, they join a Brazilian capoeira team to perform for Stevens, marking a hopeful new chapter for the community.
