Chathikkatha Chanthu

Thampuran manipulates Chanthu by compelling him to write love letters to a fictitious girl, Vasumathi. The ruse creates a triangle of secrecy that strains Chanthu and fuels Indira's inappropriate expectations. This coercion sets the plot in motion as the letters reach their intended target.

Unknown to the family, a real Vasumathi lives in Thottakkattukara and begins to hope for a savior after reading about Chanthu and the imagined letters. She starts investigating Chanthu and the family behind the letters, looking for clues. Her search propels the central coincidence at the heart of the film.

Vasumathi accepts the quest implied by the letters and sets off toward Madras. At the bus station she explains her story to Krishnan and several crew members before Chanthu arrives. The journey becomes a staging ground for the forthcoming encounter.

During the voyage she attempts to impress Chanthu, who remains unaware of her true identity. Upon reaching Madras, Vasumathi introduces herself to Chanthu as Suma. The mismatch between his perception and her reality becomes a central tension.

Krishnan introduces Chanthu and Vasumathi to the film director Harikrishnan, who agrees to hear Chanthu’s new script. Vasumathi joins to help, and the director questions whether the tale can persuade an audience. The meeting institutionalizes the collaboration that will frame the rest of the plot.

Vasumathi discloses her aristocratic background and the cruel events that led to her ‘possession’ claim, including the deaths of her mother and grandmother and the fake exorcism. Ramu confesses he was orchestrating the murders to frame Vasumathi, and Vasumathi’s grandfather appears to confirm his guilt. He kills Ramu, and the criminals are arrested as the truth prevails. The family plot collapses under its own greed.

Vasumathi is entrusted to the care of Chanthu and the film crew, who produce a movie based on the events. In the final twist, Chanthu marries Vasumathi and Indira marries Krishnan, signaling a hopeful future for all involved.
