Chinnu and Anu are childhood friends in a quiet village, whose days are filled with singing, dancing, and laughter. Before Anu leaves with her family when her father, a wealthy government official, is transferred, she gifts Chinnu a beautiful musical watch as a keepsake of their bond. Tragedy soon follows as Chinnu’s mother dies suddenly, leaving him to be raised by Chandramohan’s family, and he becomes known as Venu.
From that moment, Venu forms a strong attachment to his adoptive parents and to Chandramohan’s music shop, all while cherishing his first love for Anu, whom he believes he’ll meet again someday. Anu, who goes by the name Renu, holds a similar longing and writes a story about her life, titled Thithikudhe, for a weekly magazine in the hope that Chinnu will read it and return.
Meanwhile, Sruthi, a perceptive press reporter and the daughter of a magazine editor, becomes a friend of Venu and slowly falls for his genuine nature. A misunderstanding at Venu’s sister’s engagement leads to a night of drinking, during which Venu unconsciously gifts the musical watch to Sruthi, thanking her for her help. The following day, Renu visits a store and discovers the watch on Sruthi, recognizing it as the token from her beloved Chinnu. Sruthi reveals that the watch came from her lover Venu, which shocks Renu and reveals a missing piece of their shared past.
As Venu pieces together the incident, he realizes he misplaced the memory of giving the watch to Sruthi and searches for it, hoping to recover a memory that connects him to Anu. He confronts Sruthi, apologizes, and begs for the watch to stay with him as a memory of his childhood friend. This revelation unsettles Sruthi, who learns that Venu’s feelings for Anu may still be alive. When Sruthi informs Renu of this, a dramatic turn occurs: Renu—who is actually Anu—begins to understand that Venu’s love is sincere, and she decides to pursue him while keeping her true identity hidden.
Venu’s world becomes more complex as he is introduced to Renu, who is eager to see him on a TV stage where he sings their friendship song, “Mainave Mainave.” Yet Renu continues to conceal her identity, choosing to win his heart as the writer whose life she’s chronicled. Back home, Venu’s sister’s engagement and the wedding of Chandramohan’s daughter add to the family’s mounting obligations and tensions, while Anu’s own arranged marriage to a minister’s son is arranged by her father, who has his own plans to block the romance.
When Venu discovers in Thithikudhe that Renu is, in fact, Anu, he wrestles with the conflict between duty to his sister and the truth of his feelings for his childhood love. Anu, away at a function, learns that Venu has chosen to step away to protect his sister’s happiness, lying to her that he loves another woman—Renu. The revelation leaves Anu shaken, yet hopeful.
The truth finally comes to light when Shruti records the real reason for Venu’s apparent withdrawal and shares it with Anu. Realizing that Venu’s love is genuine and that he sacrificed his own happiness for his sister, Anu rushes to reunite with him. A dramatic chase ensues as a few goons hired by Anu’s father and the minister pursue them; Venu is injured in the ensuing confrontation and rushed to the hospital. In a quiet moment of hope, Anu brings the idol of their beloved Hanuman to the hospital and prays for Venu’s recovery. The musical watch, tucked away in Venu’s shirt pocket, falls out, and its music guides him back to wakefulness. He opens his eyes to see Anu by his side, and in that moment, the two are finally understood and accepted by their families. The story ends with their reunion, a testament to enduring love that survives misunderstanding and sacrifice.
