The world is engulfed in horror as mysterious entities prey on humanity’s negative emotions, often transforming individuals into unwitting “seers.” This shocking journey into despair leads most to the brink of suicide after they encounter these malevolent beings. To cope with this terrifying reality, a common survival tactic involves wearing blindfolds while outside.

In the heart of Barcelona, Spain, Sebastián and his young daughter Anna navigate this chaotic landscape. During a fateful day, Sebastián crosses paths with a group of survivors who hope to find sanctuary. They believe that Sebastián holds the key to vital generators capable of providing much-needed light and warmth. Driven by desperation, Sebastián becomes part of this makeshift family as they take refuge inside a bus hangar. However, tragedy strikes when, during the night, Sebastián drives the bus outside, resulting in a horrific crash that leaves everyone exposed and without their protective blindfolds. As panic ensues, Sebastián’s true nature is revealed; he is a seer unaffected by the entities. One by one, he tragically guides his fellow survivors to open their eyes. Unbearably, they witness the horror for themselves, leading to their suicides. With a dreadful sense of satisfaction, Anna celebrates Sebastián’s actions, insisting he must continue to find other “lost sheep” to save.

Nine months prior, the arrival of the entities sent the populace into a frenzied flight. In this turbulent time, Sebastián fought to retrieve Anna while enduring the unbearable loss of his wife in a tragic car accident. The duo found a semblance of refuge within the walls of a church, where they encountered the enigmatic Padre Esteban. His dubious philosophy hinted that the entities might actually be angels, suggesting that humanity’s liberation lies in embracing death rather than fear. While Sebastián and Anna sought cover, the sinister group of seers led by Padre Esteban would not be deterred. This resulted in Anna being forcefully compelled to open her eyes, leading to her untimely demise. As Sebastián confronted the malevolent entities, instead of succumbing to death as expected, he was mercifully met with the apparition of Anna, who promised to be by his side until he had “saved” enough souls.

Sebastián’s journey continues as he encounters a new band of survivors led by Rafa, who brings along two loyal dogs. Among these individuals are Octavio, an astute Mexican deliveryman skilled in the nuances of physics; Roberto and Isabel, a couple trying to navigate the treacherous landscape; Claire, a perceptive English psychiatrist; and Sofia, a young German girl desperately searching for her mother. Octavio postulates a theory that these entities are intricate quantum beings that thrive on humanity’s innate fear and sadness. Sofia introduces the group to the fabled Montjuïc Castle, rumored to be a sanctuary that can be reached via a gondola lift. Eagerly, the group sets forth on their perilous quest to find safety in the castle.

However, the journey is rife with peril, as Rafa falls victim early on, tragically succumbing to Sebastián’s misguided sabotage of the dog leashes. As the survivors take shelter, doubt creeps in, culminating in catastrophic choices that lead to Octavio’s demise. Despair deepens as Sebastián starts to grapple with the haunting presence of Anna’s spirit. The losses continue to mount as Roberto and Isabel too meet grim fates. As suspicion brews, Claire grows wary of Sebastián, fearing he may pose a threat to Sofia. Renouncing Anna’s overwhelming influence, Sebastián resolves to protect Claire and Sofia against all odds. The dire situation escalates as Padre Esteban and his followers close in on their location. In a climactic confrontation, Sebastián sacrifices himself to ensure Claire and Sofia reach the gondola lift safely, smiling as he faces his own end alongside Padre.

The journey does not end there for Claire and Sofia, who bravely enter Montjuïc, now a hidden camp where Sofia is joyously reunited with her mother. In this dark but hopeful setting, Claire is subjected to blood tests conducted by scientists on the brink of developing an antidote, hoping to shield humanity from the insidious influence of the entities. The gripping saga unravels, revealing the ultimate struggle between despair and the flickering light of hope in a world dominated by shadows.
