The year is 2293, and society is divided into two groups: the Brutals and the Eternals. The Brutals live in the harsh Outlands, struggling to survive, while the Eternals enjoy a seemingly utopian existence away from the chaotic world outside.

Among the Brutals are the Exterminators, elite warriors tasked with eliminating the undesirable elements of their society. They revere the colossal floating head of Zardoz, receiving ominous commands to kill rather than to procreate.

Zed, a key character, seizes a firearm from Zardoz and defiantly fires it towards the camera. This rebellious act marks his transition from a mere Bruatl to a pivotal player in the story, setting the tone for his subsequent journey.

Inside the floating head of Zardoz, Zed finds abundant supplies like grain and potatoes, along with several Eternals in frozen animation. His curiosity leads him to unknowingly disrupt this surreal environment by injuring Arthur Frayn.

As the head descends into Vortex Four, Zed is greeted by a farming utopia, brimming with hydroponically grown vegetables. He stumbles upon a greenhouse filled with strange diagrams, triggering his quest for understanding this unfamiliar realm.

Zed meets May, a scientist curious about the Brutals. Their interaction grows tense when May uses her telepathic ability to blind him momentarily, showcasing the Eternals' advanced but unsettling nature.
