Unforgivable

An aging, successful writer of crime novels who moves to Venice seeking peace and a year of quiet to write a new book. He battles writer's block, drifts through the city for inspiration, and grows jealous when he suspects Judith's fidelity. He ultimately completes his novel and asks Judith to move to Paris with him.

A beautiful ex-model and real estate agent who shows Francis a house on Sant'Erasmo and later becomes his wife. She has a complex past with multiple affairs and a lesbian history with Anna Maria. Her choices and independence create tension with Francis, and she eventually leaves Sant'Erasmo before returning to Venice.

Francis's daughter from a previous marriage; an aimless aspiring actress who visits with her young daughter Vicky. She is involved with Alvise, an aristocrat and small-time drug dealer, and is estranged from the father of her daughter. She returns to Venice and seeks forgiveness while pursuing her relationship with Alvise.

Alice's ten-year-old daughter who is abandoned by Alice and picked up by Roger, her father. She serves as a quiet observer amid the adult drama and represents the vulnerable link between generations.

A penniless aristocrat and small-time heroin dealer who is the object of Alice's love. He is later in prison in Venice, adding danger and instability to the relationships around him.

Anna Maria's troubled son, recently released from prison. He is involved in following Judith, has a violent encounter with a gay man who kills his dog, and ultimately contemplates his future before choosing to leave Venice.

A vodka-swilling private detective who once had a lesbian relationship with Judith. She returns from Paris with news about Alice and is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer; her funeral marks a turning point in the lives of the other characters.

Vicky's father, who takes custody of Vicky after Alice abandons her. He appears as a stabilizing figure amid the family upheaval.
