The Remains

A couple visits spiritualist Madame Addison at 3:00 AM in a house dating from 1891 to locate their missing daughter. Demonic forces intervene, and all five people in the house die that night. The tragedy leaves behind a malevolent presence that will haunt the dwelling for generations.

John buys the same house years later after his wife has died. He moves in with his elder daughter Izzy and his two younger children, Victoria and Aiden, unaware of the house’s dark history. The family begins settling into the old home.

While exploring, Victoria and Aiden find a chest in the attic filled with pictures, an old camera, a doll, and a pocket watch. Each child forms an attachment to an item—the doll for Victoria, the camera for Aiden, the watch for John. The chest hints at a link to the house’s past.

The family members begin forming attachments to the found objects, blurring lines between possession and affection. John grows more unsettled by the items as a sense of unease settles over the home. The objects become a focal point of the family’s strange tension.

John experiences fainting spells and a nightmare in which he murders Aiden in his sleep. He becomes convinced the house is exerting a malignant influence, and even the realtor claims no knowledge about the property's history. The mystery deepens as a sense of danger grows.

Izzy distances herself from the family, preferring time with her boyfriend over involvement at home. The strained dynamics heighten the sense that something unseen is watching them. Her distraction foreshadows a failure to confront the haunting.

In the attic, John sees a girl who is the daughter from the 1891 couple. She tells him to burn them focusing on the chest contents before vanishing. The encounter underscores the direct link between the past tragedy and the present events.

John swipes the items from the children and stores them in a cardboard box outside, but the items mysteriously reappear back inside the house. The haunting asserts control over the living, showing its persistence. The cycle of possession tightens its grip.

One night at 3:00 AM, the younger children, now possessed, beat their father nearly to death. The family fears the worst as the spectral danger becomes brutally real. The house carries the weight of the previous tragedy into the present.

Izzy retrieves the items from John's room and burns them in the backyard at her father's urging. It is too late to save him, and the house seems to react with a chilling stillness. The attempt to break the curse only tightens the spirit’s hold.

The family calls 911, but the call is cut and the lights go out. Madame Addison reappears and kills Izzy and the remaining two children off-screen. The haunting completes its grim cycle as the living are erased from the house.

Claire sells the house to a new family, remarking that they are right on time, aligning with 3:00. The location’s doomed legacy seems to pass on to the new occupants. The film ends with the house ready to begin another chapter of the same haunted tale.
