As architect Dana Barrow (Kate Beckinsale) tries to embrace her new life at the expansive Blacker estate in the tranquil countryside of North Carolina, alongside her husband David and their five-year-old son Lucas, she is inundated by a series of chilling visions and nightmares. As Dana’s obsession with uncovering her home’s mysteries deepens, her mental state begins to unravel. She stops taking her medication and grows increasingly erratic in her interactions with David and Lucas. The discovery of a hidden portrait of Judge Blacker and his wife, Mrs. Blacker, escalates her unrest, culminating in a desperate act as she sets fire to the painting in a misguided effort to rid herself of the menacing spirits that plague her.

During a poignant gathering held by David to commemorate what would have been Catherine’s first birthday, Dana initiates a dark plan by hiring local handyman Ben Philips to unearth the grave in their yard. In a poignant climax, Laura’s ghost is liberated from the confines of the home, dissipating into the ether and leaving Dana grappling with the revelation that she had been hallucinating Ben’s violent end. The stark reality hits hard, compelling Dana to reassess her grip on sanity.
