Dark Mirror

Deborah Lisa Vidal moves with her husband Jim David Chisum and their son Ian Joshua Pelegrin from Seattle to Los Angeles after being drawn to a house whose glass pane windows catch the light in a way that feels almost personal. Deborah hopes to revive her photography career while caring for Ian, as Jim frequently works late, leaving her alone to explore the new home and coax images from its quiet corners.

From the start, odd reflections and shifting panes unsettle the family. Deborah seeks guidance from a chatty neighbor, Grace Lupe Ontiveros, who explains that a famous artist and his family once lived there before vanishing under mysterious circumstances. Deborah’s mother visits as well, offering a Feng Shui warning: window panes are sometimes used to trap evil spirits and keep harm at bay.

As the hauntings intensify, Deborah becomes convinced that something evil resides within the house’s mirrors and windows. When an interviewer who derides her work is killed, followed by a woman who berates Deborah for damaging her car, and then the lurking old neighbor, the pattern grows clearer: everyone Deborah photographs dies, and their bodies disappear. She grows certain that the malevolent force has infiltrated her camera lens and is using it to kill.

She shares her fear with Jim, but he dismisses it as stress or imagination. Yet he sees something strange—a door that doesn’t exist in the real world but only appears in the mirror. Deb’s conviction deepens, and her mother supports her, guiding her toward a possible escape from the house’s hold.

In the chimney, Deborah uncovers a painting of the previous owner’s wife and a diary that reveals the tragic tale of Elenor, the painter’s wife, who was kept prisoner by her husband Rupert Wills. Elenor’s work—her drawings—began to manifest as reality, seemingly because the house’s trapped mirrors bend reality. The diary explains how Elenor’s longing for freedom corresponded to the room’s eerie powers, and how she searched for an exit that never came.

One night, Jim is seen flirting with the beautiful Tammy [Christine Lakin] through a glass window, and Deborah witnesses their image as if they’re truly together. Enraged, she snaps a photo of Tammy and then dreams of Tammy’s death. When she wakes, she finds the camera in her son’s room, still glittering with something unsettling, and she destroys it. The image-bearing lens remains, and Deborah realizes the danger lies not just in the house, but in the mirror itself.

Armed with the diary’s clues, Deborah locates a hidden safe in a wall containing a gun. She moments later encounters an intruder, shoots him, and discovers to her horror that the intruder is Jim. He ties her up, accusing her of murder, and the truth about Elenor’s trapped spirit begins to surface. By dawn, Deborah’s mother frees her, and they confront the mirror once more. The truth erupts: Elenor is trapped in the mirror and has learned to use Deb’s body to carry out killings. In a desperate struggle, Deborah confronts Elenor inside the mirror and, by walking through the reflective surface, attempts to sever the evil’s grip. Jim dies in the confrontation, and Deb stabs herself to stop Elenor’s hold. The two bodies are drawn toward the mysterious door and vanish, joining the pattern of others who disappeared.

The case leaves the police baffled: blood traces lead to a blank wall, and a female officer later snapshots the mirror, catching a glimpse of a ghostly presence. The implication lingers that Elenor’s spirit may still linger, even within the force, suggesting the haunting has not fully ended and that the house’s dark history continues to echo through the reflections.
