Repo Man

In the vast Mojave Desert, a motorcycle cop conducts a routine patrol but encounters a peculiar driver, Dr. J. Frank Parnell, in a 1964 Chevrolet Malibu. The officer ignores the warnings from Parnell and opens the trunk of the car, only to be vaporized by a blinding flash of white light.

In Los Angeles, Otto Maddox, a young punk rocker, faces a series of misfortunes. He is fired from his supermarket job for minor infractions and discovers his girlfriend cheating on him with his best friend, Duke, leaving him heartbroken and lost.

Feeling desperate and without money, Otto meets a man named Bud who offers him $25 to drive a 1978 Olds Cutlass Salon. Bud claims the car belongs to his wife, who is about to give birth, presenting Otto with a seemingly easy job.

Otto follows Bud to the Helping Hand Acceptance Corporation, only to discover that the Olds was actually being repossessed. Upset by the truth, he pours out the beer presented to him and decides to embrace the repo lifestyle.

As Otto begins his new career, Bud introduces him to the quirky realities of being a repo man, including the need to dress like cops and work long hours. Otto starts to understand the intricacies and demands of the repo business.

The rivalry between Bud and the Rodriguez Brothers escalates, leading to a reckless race through the LA River. The playful banter between the rivals adds tension to their competition, revealing the lengths they will go to assert dominance.

During a repo mission, Otto meets Leila, who works at the United Fruitcake Outlet. As they drive, she warns him about two men resembling government agents, also revealing her bizarre belief that aliens are housed in a Chevy Malibu's trunk.

A massive $20,000 bounty is announced for the Chevy Malibu, piquing the interest of various factions. Many believe the car may be tied to illegal activities, given the peculiar value placed on it compared to the vehicle itself.

Dr. J. Frank Parnell arrives in Los Angeles, but his search for the Malibu is interrupted by persistent government agents. The chaos mounts as he becomes embroiled in a web involving UFO enthusiasts and impending danger.

The Rodriguez Brothers manage to steal the Malibu from a gas station while Parnell is refueling, escalating the conflict. However, Otto's friends, in a simultaneous chaotic spree, capture the car from the thieves.

Parnell confronts Otto’s friends over the Malibu, leading to tragic consequences with one person dead and the others fleeing in fear. This encounter cements the car's perilous significance and the stakes involved.

After a harrowing chase, Parnell succumbs to the deadly radiation exposure from the Malibu. Otto witnesses this surreal moment, leading him to return the glowing car to Helping Hand, unaware of its ever-increasing danger.

Despite Otto's return of the Malibu, chaos reigns as government agents swoop in to reclaim the car, which has now been stolen again. The allure of the car's otherworldly qualities ignites a frenzy among those who seek to lay claim.

In a stunning finale, various factions converge around the Malibu, each ready to claim it as their own. However, anyone attempting to get inside spontaneously bursts into flames, underscoring the car's mystique and danger.

Miller, an eccentric mechanic, successfully enters the Malibu amidst the chaos and invites Otto to join him. As they lift off into the skies over downtown Los Angeles, Otto is exhilarated, signaling the start of a surreal journey.
