Global events show a nuclear bomb was detonated over San Francisco and New York City was walled off. The U.S. government declares the outbreak over and forms a paramilitary unit called R-Division to hunt and destroy remaining zombies. The Re-Kill show broadcasts live footage from field squads, interrupted by commercials about repopulation and public reassurance.

An embedded journalist joins a squad approaching recruitment of Division 8. The unit includes Tom Falkirk, Omar Hernandez, Nguyen, Rose Matthews, Parker, and their leader Sarge, with journalists Jimmy and Bobby along for coverage. The mission sets a hard-edged tone of militarized media exposure.

Division 8 travels to New Orleans on a raid to verify reports of zombie activity, with embedded journalists Jimmy and Bobby along for the ride. The mission goes disastrously wrong, and only Alex Winston and the journalist reach a car. The journalist is infected and Winston shoots her to prevent a wider outbreak; the government publicly claims the outbreak is under control.

Division 8 stops a truck believed to carry contraband, only to find it swarming with zombies. Sarge uses a rocket-propelled grenade to clear the horde, and the truckers claim ignorance about the cargo. Rumors of the Judas Project surface, with Parker suspecting a hidden military operation and Sarge worrying about a second outbreak.

In The Zone, the forbidden core of New York, they encounter dead scientists and zombies that appear more intelligent. After an ambush, Omar insists Parker was bitten and urges the group to kill him, but Parker opens fire and kills Adams. Winston is wounded and sacrifices himself with a grenade to allow the others to escape, and a previous interview shows his belief that the government has prepared an ark for eligible survivors.

Deeper in the Zone, Hernandez is bitten and turns. A man claiming to be the last Judas Project member guides them to safety, but Nguyen is left behind and killed. The project’s purpose is revealed—to turn zombies against each other—and an alpha zombie named Elvis appears to rally the undead. Jimmy reports that network drones will broadcast Elvis’s footage every two hours.

The squad fights through a growing horde as Bobby dies and Elvis’s power grows. Elvis kills Jimmy and later attacks Rose, who escapes by killing Elvis and fleeing The Zone. A special news report confirms renewed zombie activity near the Zone and signals the start of a fresh outbreak.

In the aftermath, officials confirm that the Judas Project ark is real and could offer a path to salvation. Rose Matthews and other soldiers discuss having found groups of survivors, suggesting a glimmer of hope beyond the zone’s collapse.
