Survival of the Dead

As the curtain rises over a bleak and desolate landscape, National Guard Sergeant “Nicotine” Crockett (Alan Van Sprang), along with his fellow soldiers Kenny, Francisco, and Tomboy, turns their back on their posts, embarking on a perilous journey of betrayal that diverges from the protagonists of a prior cinematic tale. Meanwhile, on the windswept shores of Delaware’s Plum Island, an age-old conflict simmers between the Irish clans of the O’Flynns and the Muldoons. The patriarch of the O’Flynn family, Patrick (Kenneth Welsh), gathers a fervent group with the intent to eliminate the undead menace that plagues the island, only to learn that their arch-rival, Seamus Muldoon, is desperately protecting his reanimated kin, hoping against hope to find a cure for their condition.

As the tensions reach a boiling point, Patrick and his band launch an assault on the Muldoon stronghold, igniting a chaotic gunfight that tragically claims an innocent life. Overcome with remorse, Patrick decides to lay down his arms and is granted exile by Seamus, driven by the plea of his own daughter Janet (Kathleen Munroe).

In a poignant turn of events, a young boy allies with the National Guardsmen, sharing vital information about Plum Island that sets the stage for their next moves. They are soon confronted with a video message from Patrick that nudges them towards a fateful rendezvous. Upon their arrival at the dock, the O’Flynns attempt to forcibly seize the Guardsmen’s belongings, igniting a fierce and violent clash.

In a surprising twist, Francisco commandeers a ferry boat where, in a moment of gruesome self-defense, he bites off a zombie’s finger to protect himself. As the O’Flynns fall victim to the onslaught of the undead, Patrick joins the fray, revealing that he had previously sent individuals to the island in a calculated act of provocation aimed at provoking the Muldoons.

Upon their arrival on the island, the group is met with the horrifying sight of the Muldoons chaining their undead loved ones in grotesque displays, reminiscent of their former lives. Scattered among the lifeless remains of those who fell victim to Patrick’s earlier schemes lie the twisted bodies of the individuals he sent, instigating a reckoning of sorts for the O’Flynn patriarch. Vision strikes Patrick as he lays eyes on his daughter Janet, now transformed into one of the very undead he sought to battle.

Amidst this turmoil, Patrick tries to rally support against their shared plight; however, two Muldoon warriors ambush, inflicting severe injuries on Crockett and Kenny. Tragically, Kenny succumbs to his wounds, leading Patrick to deliver a mercy killing, sparing him from the blight of reanimation. Meanwhile, Francisco reveals that he has unwittingly infected himself during his earlier struggle, prompting him to beseech Tomboy to end his suffering and put him out of his misery.

Tomboy, full of reluctance, grants Francisco’s wish but is soon captured by Seamus Muldoon, setting the stage for an urgent fight for survival on Plum Island, where loyalties are strained and the essence of humanity is tested. As Patrick’s world disintegrates around him, a seismic twist unravels: the girl he had previously encountered wasn’t his long-lost daughter but her twin sister, Jane. With the living Janet rallying at his side, they join forces with Crockett and the other Guardsmen against the Muldoon clan.

A fraught confrontation erupts at the bridge delineating the territories of the two families, resulting in the capture of the O’Flynn group. While the boy and Janet manage to escape, Muldoon’s sinister plan to redirect Jane’s undead cravings towards his horse backfires, as she instead targets her sister Janet, spiraling the scene into violent chaos.

In the ensuing bedlam, an uneasy truce emerges between Muldoon and O’Flynn, quickly disintegrating when Muldoon is shot down by O’Flynn, who subsequently meets his fate at the hands of a hidden weapon. As war ravages the realm, Crockett and his companions strive to flee the desolation of the island, but Janet’s haunting desperation to save her sister from a gruesome fate prompts her to provide a warning, only to be tragically silenced by Patrick’s own hand in a frantic bid to prevent his daughter from suffering the same fate as the undead.

As the O’Flynn and Muldoon clash, grappling in their last futile struggles devoid of ammunition, Crockett’s party makes their escape on the ferry. Watching the fallout of war unfold, the weary leader reflects on the senseless savagery as the zombies of both clans merge in a grotesque dance of death, embodying a haunting reminder of the devastating costs of conflict.
