The film opens with a news report about “Natas”, a strange drug that has been reported to induce zombie-like effects in those who consume it. The scene then jumps forward to a world where the undead roam freely. The Hunter, [Martin Copping], drives along a desolate, post-apocalyptic wasteland and encounters a hostile Death Angel, [Jake Bushman], a zombie whose towering presence and grotesque power foreshadow the cruelty of the new world. A brutal collision leaves the creature as purple goo, a grim reminder of the dangers that still lurk on the road.
Hunter stops at a deserted filling station to refuel and search for supplies. Inside the convenience store, he is ambushed by a wave of invading zombies. A ferocious, gory battle ensues, and Hunter fights his way through with grim efficiency, finally downing the last of the intruders and slumping to the floor with a broken breath. He drinks tequila to steady his nerves, and the audience learns a painful truth: his wife and daughter have already died, their absence weighing heavily on every choice he makes.
Continuing his journey, Hunter unknowingly crosses into the territory of a group of survivors who have not yet been infected. Believing him to be a threat, an unknown assailant fires, but Hunter escapes unharmed and is brought back to consciousness by a survivor named Debbie. Fast Lane Debbie, [Jade Regier], has a flirtatious, brash energy that quickly becomes a source of tension when Alison, [Clare Niederpruem], intervenes with a calm, practical presence of her own. The two women clash, and the fragile balance of the camp is momentarily unsettled as they test boundaries and expectations. Amidst the quarreling, a fragile friendship forms between Debbie and Hunter as he begins to piece together what life remains for those who have survived the initial outbreak.
Into this fragile community steps Father Jesús, [Danny Trejo], the zombie slayer who acts as both protector and spiritual guide for the survivors. He leads a small meal among the group, offering a sense of order and purpose in a world without guarantees. Hunter joins the gathering and slowly opens up, meeting the other survivors and sharing a quiet, growing connection with Alison. The pair’s bond grows more intimate as they navigate the complexities of trust and danger in a place where every moment could be their last.
The uneasy peace is shattered when a flood of zombies, including a monstrously large variant, breaches the camp’s defenses. The smaller zombies are manageable, but the gigantic creature proves nearly unstoppable. Jesús rushes in to defend the group, swinging his axe in a brutal, focused display of courage. He manages to sever the monster’s arm and deal punishing blows, but the behemoth is not defeated. In a devastating turn, the colossal zombie overpowers him and decapitates Jesús, leaving the survivors reeling and determined to escape.
In a frantic counterattack, the remaining survivors scramble into a car and head toward an airport, hoping to find a working airplane to fly to safety. The undead relentlessly pursue them, and one by one, most of the group is killed as they fight to stay ahead. Hunter, Alison, and Ricky, Alison’s brother, survive the rampage while the others fall, and the trio prepares for the last stand against the relentless horde.
Desperate and out of ammunition, Hunter is mortally wounded, impaled by the sharp claws of the pursuing zombie. With a last, stubborn breath of resolve, he detonates a grenade, annihilating the giant creature and collapsing the airport around them. Alison and Ricky seize the moment and drive a truck to safety, leaving the chaotic scene behind as the ruin bursts into flame and smoke.
In a quiet, mournful moment after the explosion, Alison pledges to remember Hunter and his courageous deed, expressing that, for him, at last, there is peace. The immediate chaos subsides, but a final, startling image reveals that Hunter is alive. He explains that he feels cursed, as the zombies never seem able to kill him, and he reveals his intent to end his own life, choosing a solitary fate in a world that has already taken so much from him.
