Avni Ayesha’s world begins as a quiet, painful story: a 9-year-old girl living with her mother Ayesha Haider, watched over by a filmmaker father, Ashish Mehta, who hides their connection from Dayawanti, a religious yet corrupt Hindu woman who harbors a deep resentment toward Ayesha’s Muslim faith. Because Avni was born out of wedlock, she never receives a Naamkaran, and she carries the name Avni Ayesha as a reminder of the fragile family she longs to belong to. The tension between Dayawanti and the growing family sets the stage for a web of secrets, betrayals, and a relentless struggle for belonging.

As Ashish moves in and out of their lives, Dayawanti’s grip tightens. Ashish is forced into a marriage with Neela Parikh, a figure who will become a crucial ally to Avni. The story pivots on a layered deception. Dayawanti lures Avni into a meeting in the woods, claiming to offer a glimpse of her brother Aman. Instead, she shoots Avni and flees with Aman, renaming him Amol Mehta. Neela rescues Avni, but the girl is presumed dead. Ashish confronts the truth about Ayesha’s murder, vows to see Dayawanti jailed, and then dies in a subsequent confrontation with Dayawanti’s ally, Ketan. To complicate matters, Avni reconnects with her cousin Riya Mehta, who is about to be married, and uses the occasion to reach Aman. At the same time, ACP Neil Khanna joins the hunt to unearth Avni’s true identity in the case labeled “case 123.” Avni’s childhood friend Ali helps reveal her as Ananya, and a marriage to Neil becomes a shield against the Mehtas’ schemes.

The union with Neil marks a turning point that binds justice to love. Neil learns Avni’s full history from Neela, and the revelation of Ashish’s death and Dayawanti’s true nature sets the stage for exposure and accountability. Dayawanti and Ketan are arrested, and Aman—once a tool of her manipulation—begins to reform, even though his act of violence against Dayawanti ends in his own arrest. Vidyut’s shadow returns to complicate the happiness. Juhi, Neil’s former fiancée, reveals the existence of an illegitimate daughter, Mishti, who is held captive by Vidyut. Avni rescues Mishti, who turns out to be Juhi and Vidyut’s daughter, and Juhi’s attempt to marry Neil is thwarted. The couple’s trust is restored, and their bond deepens as they navigate the fallout of lies, law, and loyalty.

In a hard-won closing arc, Vidyut’s attempts to ruin them fail, and Avni makes a difficult choice to protect Prakash and Alleviate further danger. Neela’s sacrifice—her death during a confrontation with Vidyut—leaves a lasting void, but also a lasting resolve in Avni and Neil to honor Neela’s memory by staying united. With Vidyut finally arrested on multiple charges tied to Avni and Mishti, Neil resigns from the police force and becomes a radio host, while Avni transforms into Nilanjana and dedicates herself to a shelter for illegitimate children, the Sukoon House. Mishti, renamed Saisha, grows into a young woman whose singing talents draw admiration from the outside world, and she finds love with Karan Kapoor, a fictional celebrity figure she admires.

Meanwhile, Avni’s life expands to include Mowgli, her son with Neil, and the family’s dynamic broadens to include sweet, resilient new joys. Saisha and Karan marry, and Vidyut dies in a prison altercation in which the opportunity for revenge vanishes. The couple’s world finally centers on quiet, hard-won peace: Avni decides to leave the city with Mowgli so Neil can pursue a fresh life with Mitali. Yet the truth of Avni’s choice—protecting Prakash and those she loves—sways Neil to understand, and he forgives. Mitali’s encouragement nudges him to win Avni back, and in a final, hopeful turn, Avni and Neil reunite, forging a new life together with Mowgli by their side.
