Gino signs ownership of his bank over to his wife Theresa as a temporary protective measure. Joe persuades their mother to sign it over to him as well, enabling the brothers to seize control. With the bank in their hands, Gino is relegated to an early retirement and lives on a meager monthly allowance, leaving him directionless and humiliated.

The three brothers conspire to send Max to jail as a way to cripple Gino’s remaining support.
