Jack Crawford, Graham's former FBI superior, reaches out to him to request his help on a new murder case involving a serial killer dubbed the 'Tooth Fairy'. While at the crime scene, Graham and Crawford discover a note from the Tooth Fairy that reveals a disturbing admiration for Lecktor. This ominous connection leads them to further scrutinize the profile of the murderer and contemplate his motives.

At the FBI Academy in Quantico, the team analyzes the missing portions of the note left by the Tooth Fairy. They deduce that the murderer is attempting to communicate through the personals section of Lounds' tabloid, indicating a twisted game of cat and mouse.

The FBI's plan backfires when Lounds becomes the next victim of the Tooth Fairy. Meanwhile, the Tooth Fairy, Francis Dollarhyde, develops a complex relationship with his blind co-worker Reba McClane.
