In the charming yet eerie town of Smithville, Texas, a man named Vaughn Ely conceals a dark secret behind his amicable exterior. Once celebrated as a star quarterback, Vaughn now fulfills a morbid role as the local mortician, preparing the deceased for their final slumber. However, his life spirals into chaos when he uncovers the shocking truth that his wife, Rosemary, has been engaging in a sordid affair with David Moore, the spouse of her former high school English teacher. Consumed by feelings of betrayal and rage, Vaughn exacts a dreadful revenge, murdering Rosemary and keeping her corpse housed within his home, treating her as if she were still alive. Each night, he indulges in a twisted waltz with her lifeless body, spiraling deeper into madness.

Two years later, four unsuspecting high school friends—Travis, Danny, Brian, and his girlfriend Abby—curiosity leads them into Vaughn’s unsettling domain while sneaking around in the dead of night. Believing that Vaughn is away, they venture inside only to stumble upon him engaging in a macabre dance with his deceased wife. When Vaughn realizes they’ve invaded his disturbed sanctuary, he turns his rage on Danny, brutally dispatching him down the stairs, while Travis can only watch in horror as Vaughn maliciously crushes Danny’s corpse.

Though Vaughn chooses not to pursue legal action against the young trespassers, the local authorities dismiss their frantic claims out of skepticism. Unwilling to accept this, Travis and Abby make it their mission to uncover the ghastly truth behind Vaughn’s nature and the circumstances surrounding Danny’s death. During a covert revisit to Vaughn’s sinister abode, they find themselves trapped in his intricate deception. Vaughn seizes Abby, rendering her unconscious and boarding her in a casket buried in his backyard, while injuring Travis with a gunshot wound.

As he recuperates in the hospital, Travis is guarded closely by the police, who remain oblivious to Brian’s efforts to help him escape. Just as the police pursue Brian under the mistaken belief that he is Travis, our protagonist seizes this moment to flee back to Vaughn’s home, determined to rescue Abby from her entombment. As night falls, Vaughn’s nefarious plans become shockingly clear as he captures both Travis and Abby, transporting them to a foreboding cemetery with the intention of burying them alive. In the midst of this horrifying setup, Travis implores Abby to flee, promising to find her again, while Vaughn forces him to dig his own grave—a chilling reminder of their dire predicament.

With a flicker of hope, Abby manages to escape Vaughn’s grasp but returns, driven by fierce devotion to save Travis. Clad in Rosemary’s clothing, she confronts Vaughn, unleashing her fury. In the ensuing chaos, while Vaughn grapples with his delusions, Travis seizes the moment to retaliate. Together, Abby and Travis deliver a final blow to Vaughn, subduing him and entombing him alive in a grave of his own making.

Emerging from their harrowing ordeal, the duo returns to town, seeking the Sheriff’s assistance to put an end to Vaughn’s reign of terror once and for all. However, their victory is fleeting, as Vaughn’s fate descends into a more sinister turn when he is exhumed from his grave and confined to an insane asylum.

As he languishes in his cell, Vaughn’s mind has been fractured by the terrors he has faced. In a haunting moment, he directly addresses the camera, delivering a scathing critique of love itself—an unsettling breach of the fourth wall that resonates painfully with the audience, leaving them with a lingering sense of dread.
