Estela, a new Hispanic immigrant who does not speak English, begins working at The Grill after recognizing Pedro. She is quickly introduced to the staff and the restaurant's rough atmosphere. The dynamics hint at ongoing cross-cultural tensions among the kitchen's diverse workers.

Julia becomes pregnant and resolves to have an abortion, while Pedro loves her and fantasizes about running away to Mexico with their child. He even imagines a future where they escape to an unspoiled beach for their family. In the end, he pays for the abortion, and she proceeds with it alone.
