Late for the restaurant’s opening, he feverishly makes a call to his ex-wife, sincerely apologizing for missing their son’s swimming race, which highlights his ongoing neglect of family responsibilities. Upon arriving, he is greeted by an unexpected health inspection that uncovers numerous faults within the restaurant’s operations—ranging from cross-contamination issues to unsafe food handling practices.

As the health inspector meticulously details the violations, Andy, rather than accepting responsibility, shifts the blame to his staff, despite the primary concern being his lack of documentation. Notable staff members, including Carly and Freeman, step up to defend themselves, illustrating the chaos stemming from Andy’s mismanagement. Realizing his errors, Andy begins to acknowledge his shortcomings but struggles with a lack of resources as they prepare for a busy night with a limited supply.

Throughout the evening, Andy grapples with his personal health issues and his inability to manage the requests of his staff or handle the administrative duties of the restaurant. He is frequently seen consuming from a white bottle filled with an unknown liquid that slowly reveals his coping mechanisms. Tension escalates when staff members are informed about a prominent guest proposing marriage, the arrival of the illustrious celebrity chef, Alastair, and the disruptive behavior of certain guests.

As the night unfolds, Andy’s anxieties about Alastair’s presence peak. He attempts to leave but is compelled to remain by his staff’s insistence. Alastair arrives unexpectedly with a renowned food reviewer in tow, amplifying Andy’s stress. Throughout the chaos, he alternates between checking on his staff and reprimanding the dish-washing crew for falling behind due to tardiness.

The night brings continuous challenges such as communication snags stemming from language barriers and ingredient shortages, alongside difficulties imposed by a social media-obsessed front-of-house crew and demanding guests. The atmosphere thickens with tension as Carly eventually loses her composure, openly confronting the Maître D, Beth, about the chaos engulfing the restaurant. In private, Beth collapses emotionally, confessing her uncertainty about her role, only to return to a façade of control for the guests.

As the evening progresses, Alastair accuses Andy of taking out a £200K loan and avoiding repayment, exacerbating Andy’s already precarious situation. The stakes multiply when a guest suffers an allergic reaction prompting an ambulance call. Alastair, now invested in the restaurant’s reputation, pressures Andy to pin the blame on Carly for the mishap. However, as he re-enters the bustling restaurant, he tragically collapses from a suspected overdose, leaving his frantic staff to grapple with the critical urgency of saving his life, leaving them in uncertainty about what comes next.
