Kallu Amitabh Bachchan lives with his older brother Shamu, sister-in-law Asha Parekh Shanti, and their little daughter Munni. He is bright and quick-witted, but he spends his days idly playing with the neighbour’s kids, preferring small, simple pleasures over steady work. When Shamu is badly injured at the mill and loses his arms, the family’s world begins to tilt. Shamu’s injury costs him his job, and the family desperately needs money for treatment and recovery.
Kallu pleads with his brother’s boss, Shahani Seth, for financial help, yet the request is denied. Desperation drives him to break into Shahani’s safe to steal the money, but tragedy strikes first: Shamu dies, and the act spirals Kallu into a harsher reality. Shahani responds with punishment, throwing Kallu in jail for nine months, a period during which he meets other prisoners who introduce him to crime and a harsher, more calculating mindset. The experience hardens him and sparks a transformation that will redefine his life.
Upon his release, Kallu sheds his old self and emerges as Kaalia, a tougher, more formidable man with a sharpened sense of vengeance. He and his accomplices move quickly, targeting the gold Shahani has been smuggling at the mill, using a combination of cunning and force. Kaalia’s sharpened ruthlessness leads him to burn down the very mill that exploited his brother’s death, an act that seals his trajectory toward a life lived outside the law. He is soon sent back to prison for another two years, a sentence that only deepens his resolve and the circle of his enemies.
Back on the outside, his allies lie to Shanti, telling her that Kaalia is in America earning money for the family, a deception that sustains the myth of prosperity while they climb from poverty toward a dangerous kind of riches. In this period, Kaalia’s path intersects with the jailor Raghvir Singh, a smart, ethical, and strong man whose daughter was kidnapped years earlier by a prisoner. In jail, Kaalia meets Raghvir Singh Pran Sikand and forms a wary alliance built on a shared understanding of injustice and punishment. In addition, Kaalia encounters a fellow inmate named Shani Seeth, Amjad Khan, whose presence hints at a larger world of crime and consequence behind the prison walls.
When Kaalia finally walks free again, his thirst for vengeance intensifies, and he partners with a woman named Shalini Parveen Babi, whose own history and loyalties weave into his quest for retribution. The boss’s treachery escalates as he abducts Kaalia’s niece and forces Kaalia’s sister-in-law to testify against him in a murder trial, a setup that seems to box Kaalia in and paint him as a cold-hearted killer. Despite the charges, the truth begins to surface, and Kaalia escapes from prison to locate his kidnapped kin.
The pursuit leads them to the boss’s lair, where not only the missing child is found but also the ailing sister-in-law in a dire situation. The boss finally confesses to the warden that he orchestrated the kidnapping two decades earlier, revealing that the grown woman now known as Shalini is the daughter he once abducted. In a final confrontation, Kaalia and his allies clash with Shahani, delivering a brutal victory that culminates in Shahani’s arm being severed and Kaalia reclaiming his family’s dignity. The twists of loyalty, vengeance, and redemption collide in a story that tracks how a life shaped by hardship can pivot toward justice, even when the path is paved with violence and moral ambiguity.
