In a candlelit room filled with Satanic imagery, a devil-worshiper ritually murders his mother and sister and arranges their bodies as an offering. He recites the Lords Prayer backwards on the wall and then throws himself onto an athame, hoping to condemn himself. The killer's near-death journey erupts into tunnels of light, revealing a tentacle-like being of light and a soul doomed to Hell.

Car crash at the lakeside cabin

Hatch Harrison drives home from the family’s lakeside cabin with his wife and daughter. A collision with a truck causes their car to plunge into a river, and Regina manages to escape while Hatch is presumed dead.

At the hospital, Dr. Jonas Nyebern and a specialist resuscitation team revive Hatch after a lengthy procedure. A nurse warns about reviving someone who has been clinically dead for so long.
