Ghost hunter Carter Simms, [Patti Tindall], is offered $5,000 to spend a weekend in the Masterson house to investigate reported paranormal activity. The owner of the house also hires Colin Green, [Mike Marsh], as the videographer and Yvette Sandoval, [Davina Joy], as a journalist. Together they set up equipment and begin their search for evidence of ghosts or other supernatural phenomena.

The group is joined by Mary Young Mortensen, [Lindsay Page], a young member of the Mastersons’ church who claims she was sent by the owner to assist and to protect the family’s reputation. The group stays in the house for three days, and during that time several mysterious events unfold: the master bedroom becomes unnaturally cold, a chair moves by itself, gunshots are heard, voices are recorded, and eerie figures appear on video.

By the start of day three, Colin Green receives a call from the owner revealing that Mary was never supposed to be there, prompting Carter to order Mary to leave. Later that night, the team reviews footage and spots a figure in the guest house. A flashback shows Lindsay Page on a radio talk show, where she worries about people trying to discredit the Mastersons, and she resolves to return to the house.

Mary then begins killing the members of the group, leaves a note, and takes her own life—mirroring the tragedy hinted at in the film’s opening scenes. The backstory emerges: Mary is the child left by the mother in the opening moment, rescued from drowning and later adopted by the first officer who arrived on the scene. As Mary explains the Mastersons’ past—imprisonment, rape, and torture of her mother—the haunting’s real causes come into sharper focus.

As the film concludes, Carter’s fate is revealed through an infrared camera, showing that she, too, has become a ghost trapped in the Masterson house, joining the other restless spirits.
